It's always been interesting to me the type of language (slang) that's used by inmates.  Here's a list I came across that is supposedly used in Illinois Prisons.  Do you have anymore to add: and translate?

Let me feel that
getting little
Case
joint
cellie
walk yourself
green
get your money
g-shot book
chow hall
on the new
bid
ride
stole on
lets count to ten
doodoo with cheese
rappie

Spice, I'm almost afraid to ask!!!!!!!  However, when the "in-resident" wakes up today I'll be pickin' his brain.....I'm sure he's got a whole bunch more of them for us....it is fascinating, isn't it?

From what I find it slang "for something generally unimportant yet still held dear."

I believe it's any kind of note. My guy talks about other guys sending "kites" to his cell by way of the gallery worker.

It's an inmate who works on the gallery, cleaning or whatever.

A kite usually refers to an illegal note passed between inmates, however, it is sometimes used to refer to any note within the prison system.

Jo always says "I'ma fly you a kite soon"....talking about sending out a letter. Although he usually talks like that to his brother. To me, he refers it as a letter.

Some of these same slang terms dudes use out on the street here now. I love slang. HA!

Well that little trivia quiz didn't last long....

Yes, Dancer, they are all shoes....The DOC issues canvas slip-ons in R and C.  J says they must throw their street shoes into a garbage can in R and C and they receive state-issued shoes.  They come in three colors....white, blue and black.   The white one's are the average sized shoes...Marsha Bradys....the blue are giant sized...Gilligans, they are blue with white soles and a dark stripe around the sole...

And of course, the littlest shoe sizes are Bruce Lees....black little ninja types.... :-D

He said the term is used by all the inmates...it's not just an institution thing........Cracks me up *(%$#

Well, in street slang a sawbuck is a ten-dollar bill...I don't know if it's got a different meaning in prison...

yup  it is a ten dollar bill.  I had never heard the term before.  Maybe it is Chicago speak.
you mean to say there are only three sizes of shoes for them?  or just for those slip ons?  I can't remember where,  but I read something about the Marsha Brady's once.
I wonder what they do with all those shoes?  what  a  waste!

Not trying to offend anyone, but when I was locked up in Lincoln, the women who turned to other women for "companionship" were called bulldaggers ( I think that's how it's spelled).

And when asked about the "companions" they kept they would usually reply with "I'm just gay for the stay"

...everytime I come and look through one of these threads...I find something new and hilarious....I'm still laughing at the "DooDoo With Cheese" thing. Next time he calls...I'm gonna ask him what that is.

I got one for you all. I was talking about an ex and what he was locked up for and M.R told me he should have or would have gotten his butt kicked if he was in D.C.C and then he asked me if he was "Connected"=meaning is he in a gang!!

I know some of the ones you all put up on here....but if anyone finds out what a "DooDoo With Cheese" is...please let me know!!! *(%$#

Scout said above  for doo doo with cheese  :   something generally unimportant yet considered dear.
I looked at that dictionary.
Doo Rag: An archaic term for cloth worn on the head of a prisoner. See "Wave Cap." (MI>

I don't think it's archaic!  It's a soft "rag"  or cloth put over your "do" as in hairdo ie  braids or cornrows to keep them neat.  It's very time consuming to braid hair.  Generally people like to tie the do rag on when they sleep so they don't come loose. You can buy them out of nylon fabric at sally's.

haha my fiance only talks in slang!!  I still have never heard the "DooDoo" one...kite is a letter and breaking bad means cheating or leaving.. i could go on for hours, but he talks like that outside of prison anyway.  It drives me nuts!!  I guess after a while I just start to catch on and he's younger and a lot of our mutual friends talk like that too.  Ahh.. I'm starting to understand it like a second language.

so true,  Chi.  I  wish I could think of all the things that I ask to get explained to me.
ohhhh !!   Take the Browns to the Superbowl........   any guesses?
I"ve heard shortie refer to kids and also to girlfriends.  Freak can refer to girlfriend  as in "my freak is coming over " or is very sexual "she's a freak",  and verb "get your freak on".    I don't think it has quite the same meaning as "kinky".

Those certainly are colorful phrases.  Some of those sound English to me  like "storm and strife"  for wife.
In IL,  I've never heard CO's referred to as snout, pigs, bulls  as on that list above from TX.  I've only heard  guards,  CO's and POlice,  white shirts for LTS,  sarge for sergeant.

Here's one that drives me nuts. It may be a Southern Illinois phrase, although the first time I heard it was from an inmate who's from Adams County. When they refer to a guy they're talking about as "Ol' Boy" or if it's a woman "Ol' Girl" as in, "Next thing I know, Ol' Boy was coming at me with a 2x4..."

c/o are actually taught slang.... especially since the late 90s..... inmates have to make up new "codes' all the time now because corrections officers don't take it from granted anymore..they study it..and learn it....

I went back to Daz's original list after reading the entire post.  I didn't see anyone comment or explain "get your money."  We would assume that it has something to do with money on their account, but, according to my husband, it means to cum.

Here's are two that I haven't seen posted......

He's "off the chain" meaning that someone isn't acting right and is causing trouble.

"Phone's off the hook" means that internal affairs or a bunch of correctional officers are getting ready to come in any minute.

I thought about one he told me a few times. He would refer to some other inmates as "Hallies" or say "He's Hallie". When asked what that means he would say something like his breath smells like he has "Halitosis" or something like that. I don't know if this is a prison term or not, but he's said it quite a few times.

He thought that was funny!

I found the prison slang postings hilarious! Since this is my first experience with prisons in general and I don't know what half of the words mean. Fortunately, I have a brother in law that is a prison guard and he translates for me. When I visit my loved one and he starts using that slang, I give him a funny look and he says "I'm starting to sound like a convict aren't I?".

You honestly have to laugh about some of this stuff or you will go insane!  wc15

My LO says 'ride' when talking to a friend. Like " No way ride. That is not going to fly"
I sent him a picture from this website and asked if he lived down that hallway, he thought that was so funny that I called it a hallway. It's a 'gallery' he said.  Oh, well. wc2 wc2 wc15 wc15

wc26  Well, someone needs to wake up the mailroom staff at Menard if you sent pictures of the interior of the prison to your inmate and he GOT THEM!!!!   That is like Breach of Security 101. Unreal!!!!  No pictures of Prisons or maps are allowed to be sent to any inmate.  Geesh...they must all be sleeping in the mailroom...

babybabybaby, that's funny he says ride. Randy uses "joe" in the same context. At first, I thought he was talking to people named Joe, but soon realized he wasn't.

There are a few. Usually guys that had rank in their "orginization". There was one guy there who owned his own company that was a baller. Funny you bring that up. The guy I was referring to was the first person to give me a job in the telecom field. He was there for DUI/Death Involved. But none the less, he was a millionaire so he was a baller. The type of person who does not count his pennies when he make out his commissary slip every week.

"Pull Up" Keeping it real with someone or setting them straight. Thanks for the pull up.

"On the road."  The walkway between the units. I saw her on the road.

"Bull Dagger."  Can mean two things. Where I used to work it meant a female offender who is gay but who is also very foreceful.  According to Liz it means females who engage in sexual activity; a/k/a "bull dagging."

Ok here is one more "IA" Internal Affairs and "Hook Up" means to fix meals.  I am hooking up some noodles tonight. Oh yeah "geeked noodles."  This is where the offenders "geek" their hot pots switching wires on the back so the water will get hotter in order to make their noodles cook better.  We are having geeked noodles tonight!

When I was in Lincoln, the gym was the "Gay Bar". I was informed that the only women who went there was trying to pick up a  girl.

I can assure everyone that offenders who go to the gym are not looking to hook up with a girl!!  Liz has been at Lincoln for years and never heard the gym referred to as the "bar" or "gay bar."

, I know exactly what you're talking about.  We called it a cock in a condom as that is just what it looks like.

I also forgot:

Kick the bobos-hang out and talk
Banana suit-yellow jumpsuit used for transportation
On the new-new inmates, guys would always yell it out when someone did something clumsy like drop a stack of trays in the chow hall.
Juice card-getting something a lot inmates cannot obtain "I'm getting transferred up outta here to work release, I used my juice card"

Another one Liz just used : Ring out. "I don't want my name ringing out.  If you have me called to the Warden's Office my name wil be ringing out and I can't get any rhythym. Meaning I don't want my name known so I can get things done easier.

Some of these words come from the south and west side culture of Chicago and Ive heard a few waiting for visits at Cook County also.

Mean muggin' - Making mean or antagonizing faces or gestures to someone
Government name - I heard this used by an undocumented inmate, the Government of Illinois thinks he has one name that he is charged under, but thats not his real name...
Weight pit - is the gym?
Man up - take sides before a fight
Get your money - I think all those "money" terms stem from "money-shot" in a porn movie. I wont say more.
Popped - busted or caught. ie., "The cop turned the corner and popped me right there!"
Stinger - Guys take an extension cord and paperclips and connect them and drop them into their cup of water to heat the water extra hot for noodles or coffee.
Wolf - When a guy is mad and pacing and swearing and yelling, usually right before a fight.
Blow your wig back - kill someone

And my favorites: Snow bunny or "Becky". There are not so many white younger women going to the County to visit, and the guys yell this out to me...I guess "Becky" is like a generic white girl name? It makes me laugh every time!

Dry snitch- telling something out loud or saying something out loud for the CO to hear it. The snitch then says well I didn't tell the CO so I really didn't snitch.

I mentioned this in another thread.

"HO Case"  In women's prisons, that is someone who is serving the minimum 61 days.  "She's a ho case."  Many times women convicted of prostitution get 1 year terms & end up with 61 days.

My wife mentioned a new one yesterday.  "You gettin' funny?"  If you act differently than your community is used to.  This most often applies, at her place to women who are getting out soon and start to withdraw.  Of course, gettin funny can lead to the "sh*tty shorts."

 wc35 wc35 wc35

That reminded me of the introduction to a song called "Baby Got Back" by Sir Mix Alot....

Quoted from: http://everything2.com/title/Baby%2520Got%2520Back

"Oh, my, god. Becky, look at her butt.
It is so big. She looks like,
one of those rap guys' girlfriends.
But, y'know, who understands those rap guys?
They only talk to her, because,
she looks like a total prostitute, 'kay?
I mean, her butt, is just so big.
I can't believe it's just so round, it's like,
out there, I mean - gross. Look!
She's just so ... black!

— Introduction to Baby got Back

The song opens with a monotonous yet insistent synth-bass line, and the above introduction, read in a deliberate white/valley girl voice, and is followed immediately by Mix-a-Lot's bold style and a number of bright orchestra hit samples. His Sirness delivers verse after verse on the merits of the stereotypical black female ass while at the same time decrying the form of the slender woman"

So I guess Becky could be a reference to a white female.
