I hope someone out there can help me. My friend was recently in the hole when his time was up and he returned to his cell he was transferred from East house to West house and he ID tag color was changed to red. When he called and told me this I asked why, he said no one told him why. Is there a way to find out why this was done and as a friend can I contact his counselor to find out........Thanks, Honeybun1

I believe the color of the ID tag has to do with the level of security/escape risk they present.  Due to it is a recent "change", I would think, in this case, it may have to do with what he did in order to be sent to the "hole".

J says the color Red is the highest level of security risk...Escape risk and sometimes other reasons.  If you leave the DOC and return you also get this color on subsequent bids.

I will have to double check, but I believe it to be white Low Escape risk, blue, red and then green being the highest level of escape risk. LWOP can never go higher than blue because of the length of time left to serve.
My LO had a red one when I met him and has since received a blue one. I know he was quite happy about getting the blue one.

I think Scout posted the levels and colors of IDs before but after doing a search of the forum nothing is coming up.  A moderator may have dumped the thread to recycle thinking it was old information.  Scout?

Here's the link to the topic of Escape Risk levels and the corresponding ID colors.

Hmmm...the link to the PDF file isn't working.  I'll send that to Mah to fix.

Also, if there is a pending warrant/case they are blue ID tags, in Shawnee /Pinkneyville it is that way.

Thanks for the information. I will write my friend and let him know what's going on. I may get a chance to talk to him if Menard ever gets off lockdown. I had plan to go see him for my birthday April 19 but I am not going to travel from chicago to menard for a one hour visit. This website has been a real help and support for his family and myself. I just want to say thanks again.......honeybun1
