Throw Away the Key

« on: June 10, 2008, 08:00:02 PM »

We want to see how many of our members have loved ones serving long-term sentences. In addition to the poll question, if you would like to also answer the year your inmate was incarcerated, the length of his/her sentence, and his/her institution, it would be very helpful.

Thank you.

My inmate was given concurrent sentences with the longest length 70 years. Serving half of that is 35 so I answered 40. He's been incarcerated since he was 18 years of age. We still fight for his release. He's currently at Big Muddy.

M has been incarcerated since 1982 at the age of 19 and was given 70 years so he must serve 35.  He's in Dixon and still has another 8 to go.  Still fighting for his release though.

My son was sentenced to 75 years at Stateville, he was 22 years old. He has been granted a new trial. I will take the poll after his trial and pray that his sentence has been at least reduced.

Only 12 members have replied to this poll so far. Surely there are more members with long-term inmates?

My heart goes out to those with long sentences. And I thought I had it bad with a 4 and a 2 year. There is alot to be said about a family that sticks it out behind the inmate doing time like you all are discussing. I will keep you all in my prayers.

I haven't replied yet as I don't want no bad karma. As soon as the trial is over I will hopefully be clicking on the first option. Better yet no option.

Ielene - we're all keeping our fingers and toes crossed that you will not have to select any of the options at all! The end of a nightmare for you and your family.

Thanks Jim's, I am hoping for the best but preparing for the worse. I just hope things start rolling soon. Stateville says they will only hold his belongs till October, I would hate to have to repurchase all those electronics.

My brother is serving a 40 year sentence.  He was 29 when he was arrested.   He has been inside for a little over 4 years.
