Dazzler,  I sent an email on 5/9/09 relative to my brother's medical negligence at Big Muddy River CC.  Please confirm if you have received it, otherwise I can re-send it.  My father and brother will be there in support to the Buhermester's Family and in the event they are given an opportunity to share Chavez's story.

Yes I did Alma and it's been included in the packet to the legislators.  If your family members get the opportunity to tell their story it will have even greater impact....I have a total of 20 stories that are being printed for the Committee.

The legislature needs to take a good hard look at IDOC and demand change.  I realize they are inmates and have done wrong but people take better care of their dogs than IDOC takes care of the inmates.  People of authority in IDOC who dont give dam need to be fired and replaced.  I know there are alot of inmates compared to staff and I realize some inmates are  tough to handle but any one of those IDOC staff would demand good healthcare from their own doctors and the same should be granted to inmates.  If you are an IDOC employee and dont like your job then go work somewhere else.  To revamp the situation is an understatement.  The system as a whole needs an overhaul starting at the top.  Alot of issues at hand would resolve themselves if IDOC approached situations in a different manner such as the diet, ex; a good diet would reduce digestive problems with inmates therefore reduce healthcare costs for these issues.  There are to many examples to list but IDOC needs to take the steps necessary to make change and get away from thinking that because they are inmates they are useless.

wc23 OMGosh this is horrible..... My condolences go out to all the families, and although nothing can be done to bring back your loved ones, the idea of you trying to prevent another family the heartache your experiencing is heroic.  I commend you for continuing the struggle.

This is the absolute worst thing that could happen to anyone on the inside.  I am going in to the medical field and I don't understand one bit why someone would be denied medical treatment.  That is just inhumane.  You can believe me that if I was on staff in the IDOC my patients would be getting their meds one way or another!!!  It is just absolutely ridiculous how the inmates are treated.

I just read this and my thoughts and prayers go out to the family of William.. I'm so scared cuz my husband Kemo is going through the same problems wit his stomach except the weight loss and he's back and forth on a sick call to the nurse and nobodys helping him and I refuse to lose him.. Could I print this story out and send it to him or will they not let him have it? I know he would want to read this.

I believe it would be best to google the newspaper articles then copy and paste them into a word doc. I don't believe we want member names printed and sent into the prisons. An admin will probably be around in the morning with another option. Good luck to Kemo.

I tried to send it in 144 pages worth b/c my man was friends with the guy and at Robinson at the same time and they called it contraband and made me pick it up in a visit.  So don't waste the money printing the information from here out and try to send cuz he won't get it.  However, you can send in the newspaper articles.  Good Luck!

Just read Billy's story.... tears. I am so sorry for your loss. Senseless. One day we will be held accountable for how we've treated other human beings. I can only pray that here on earth Justice will also be served for those responsible for the lack of medical treatment given to your loved one.

This story should be emailed to every state representative, anyone holding an office, all prison advocates etc. and maybe someone with any authority will step up and stop the insufficient care at IDOC thats not even suitable for a lab rat.
I spent 22yrs in the Illinois Dept of Corrections. The sickening story of William's death is a tragedy told over and over. Sadly, there are many, many more that had no one on the outside and their stories died with them. I know, I personally witnessed it many times.
The prison officials will do nothing because they are afraid of ******* off the union. Even more important from their standpoint is that they are terrified that the union (AFSCME) will label them "inmate lovers". I know, it may sound crazy, but that is all that they care about. So, in a "closed society" such as the Illinois Dept of Corrections, absolute power corrupts absolutely! Prison advocates are a joke, they get paid to pretend that they care, for the benefit of the inmate's families. Once any of these people are off the phones, they spread the word to the lower echelon employees that the inmate is a whiner, resulting in certain, if not immediate retaliation. Look at William's transfer to a maximum prison for horseplaying as one example.
Medical care? Give me a break! The only thing that any IDOC health facility wants to do is pass out tylenol, motrin, and other over-the-counter medications to cover themselves as "treating" the inmate's health needs. There is no fear of lawsuits by the so-called medical providers such as Wexford and Professional Health Care, because most attorneys in Illinois are to afraid to challenge the IDOC in court. I know, I have been trying to hire one since my release in January. They either outright refuse or ask such an exorbitant amount that no one other than the wealthy can afford them, which is a catch-22 since we all know that the wealthy do not go to prison normally.
My heart reaches out to William's family. I am terribly sorry for your loss. If there is any information that I could give you that would be of help, please feel free to let me know.
God Bless

I think this is very sad . Why give people the death sentence when some of our prisons neglect health issues of the inmates . Yes they do deserve fair treatment and that is one  of our amendments . But there not doing it . They are human just like us , yea they might of broke the law , but it is a human life not a animal . Some animals get treated better then people in prison . I couldn't stop sobbing while reading William's story. I wish I would have known about it last year. I would have taken part in fighting.

So whatever happened after the hearing? And is the same Dr. still practicing at Menard?

Just to let you guys now Dr Feinerman is still in practice. I live a half mile from his office. He is useless as a dr to begin with much less have a job taking care of your loved ones who have no choice in what dr they see.
