I just got a letter yesterday, from my cousin D , who is incarcerated at Yazoo City, Miss Federal, they now allow email access for their inmates, he asked me to send my email so he could stay in touch that way. Amazing, the differences in FED and STATE institutions...anyone know if any FED facility here in Illinois allows this ?

Yes in most federal facilities they allow offenders email access.  You will get an email from the company telling you that the offender has attempted to contact you. You need to respond agreeing to the inmate being able to contact you much like you do with phones.  The emails are limited to like 2-3 pages, and NO ATTACHMENTS. This is a privilige from low level or low security offenders. I have received several from an offender at Alderson FCI last year.  I thin it costs them like 10-15 cents per minute to access and compose email.

I'm not sure, but I do believe most federal facilities have e-mail service.

I know that the Indiana DOC has e-mail through J-pay for their inmates. I wish Illinois would do something like that. Most facilities only have one way e-mail, You can e-mail them, the mail room then prints out the e-mail and they they deliver it to the inmate, but there are a few facilities that have two-way e-mail, these facilities have J-pay Kiosk terminals in the dorms and the Recreation building and visitors center. Luckily my fiancee is at the only women's facility that has two-way e-mail.
