*This work camp only holds about 100-175 inmates so the visiting room is quite small. There were 7 tables total. It did not fill up though and I visited on a Saturday. When you go to visit you will pull up into a small parking lot and a officer will see you pulling in. They will then come out, write down the type of car you have, license plate number, and drivers license information. They will then search your car. Once this has been done they will walk you to a steel fenced gate in which they came out of and you will then be buzzed in. You will then walk straight into the visiting room. Where you check in and get your locker is all in the same room. I thought this was a lot less intimadating since you don't have to go thru room after room to get to the visiting room and be escorated everywhere. They do have vending machines with food, but it isn't very good and I didn't think the choices in frozen food were that great. There is a mediator watching everyone, but when there back was turned we stole an extra kiss or two. I got to kiss my man about 6 times to say goodbye, I couldn't get enough, and the officers didn't seem to mind either.

This is about the extent of information I have so far, but if anyone has any questions feel free to ask me and I will try to help in anyway I can.

NOTE NEW INFORMATION:

Visiting Hours seemed to have changed a bit.. Monday-Friday you have to schedule your visit a week in advance...Saturday & Sunday are unscheduled...The hours state 9:00-3:00 but they have always made me leave at 2:30. The vending machine company was changed so now some things are more expensive and some are cheaper...bottle of soda $1.45, cheesburger $4.25...The vending card costs $5.00...

my man was in GCWC before moving on to work release. They treated him good, and I like it, except this one bitchy guard everytime I visited. Overall, he was satisfied with their treatment and everything. merrycsanta

I betcha I know exaclty what guard you are talking about since there were only 2 females . . .I like the blonde she was so nice to me. We used to always talk engagements rings and what not and she would hassle my mana bout getting me a big fat diamond :) . . .you are talking about the one with the short hair, right? She used to always search me like it was going out of style . . . I swear, like I would actually try and take a bomb in or soemthing . . .I don't miss that, but I like how you could stay as long as you wanted. In the work release center where my man is right now you are only supposed to visit for an hour. Some of the C.O's don't care and let you stay as long as you like, but some of them are sticklers and kick you out right on the minute . . .thank god it's only like a 20 min drive for me otherwise we would have problems!

Ya, the blonde's nice. She always let me and Kev kiss all we want, as long as we weren't goin at it like there's no tomorrow. The other one, the one with short brown hair, would freak out if our faces were an inch away from each other.

This information is a little late...The warden has changed the address to GCWC.  The address that we are asked to use now is:

Greene County Work Camp
2268 East Morton Avenue
Jacksonville, IL 62650

Along with my l/o's  DOC# I also put his bed number on the envelope.  Not sure if its necessary but my l/o seemed to think it would help.

Welcome to IPT. Once his phone and visiting lists are approved, which could take a couple weeks, sometimes sooner, sometimes longer, he will be able to call.

If you haven't gone to our TEN STEPS TO UNDERSTANDING IDOC PROCEUDRES here:

http://www.illinoisprisontalk.org/index.php/topic,1513.0.html

I suggest you do and many of your answers maybe answered!  Take your time and look around, probably any questions you can think to ask, have been answered here on IPT, using the search feature on the front page of IPT helps also!

The bootcamps can be between 120-180 days, depending on how your inmate goes through the program, if he misses any days, etc. 120 days is the minimum, 180 days maximum.

Do not know where you heard 90, but that is just not true.

This is straight from the IDOC website:

The Illinois Department of Corrections operates two adult boot camps and one juvenile camp. The adult camps are located at the DuQuoin State Fairground in Perry County, and at Dixon Springs, at the edge of the Shawnee National Forest in deep southern Illinois. The juvenile camp is located in Murphysboro. Adult inmates must volunteer before the judge and the placement recommendation by the judge is reviewed when the inmate is received at Corrections. Corrections administrators determine who goes to the juvenile camp. Adults may not have been convicted of a serious crime, must be between the ages of 18-35 and not have been sentenced to Corrections more than twice. They cannot have a sentence of more than 8 years. Corrections retains the right to determine who goes to boot camp based on the nature of the crime and whether the inmate can take the regimentation both physically and mentally. The camp is 120-days in length. Inmates may not have visitors for 30 days, and then only immediate family. They are also restricted from phone calls for a period of time. Inmates may possess only what Corrections gives them.

Well, BC is never 90 days, so I am not sure what they are telling him or you, but it's not true.  Once they get to bc, their time starts and the shortest time is 120 days.

Maybe you are talking about CC bootcamp, but not IDOC.

If his profile is wrong, you might want to call his counselor and talk to them about this, if they can't help, it all depends on what is wrong with it, you might have to call Springfield.

I have to ask you, why are you posting about BC in a work camp topic?  Is your husband in Greene County Work Camp or waiting to go to bootcamp?

Greene County is a work camp not a boot camp, and they serve the regular amount of time in there, whatever is showing on his IDOC profile page is what he has to serve. They don't get any time off for being in a work camp.  The bootcamps are a whole different story.

Is he in on a parole violation waiting to talk to the PRB?
