Days seem endless, nights unbearable

« Reply #20 on: February 21, 2010, 01:01:11 PM »

I have yet another question regarding Graham R&C. D went to R&C on the morning of February 3rd. I wasn't able to place money on his account until the 12th. I have not heard from him since his one write out that I received on the 6th. Is there anyone I can call to make sure he got the money (I posted about my fiasco with Western Union), also to find out when his commissary is/was and to generally make sure he is okay? I know this sounds silly, but I have been really worried (the mind plays terrible tricks). I have seen posts about calling their counselors and what not, but am I jumping the gun? Should I call someone or just sit tight and stop letting my mind get the best of me? I fell like I am being a big baby Any opinion/advice would really be nice.

jenplus2 - My boyfriend is also in Graham R&C.  He has been there since January 4.  He will be starting his 8th week as of tomorrow.  I have never sent money as of yet by Western Union to him.  He took money to the county jail where he turned himself in to be transported to Graham.  It took a few days for it to get to him.  It is my understanding from what my boyfriend has wrote me is that they are only allowed to go to commissary once a month while in R&C.  It could be that he has not been able to go as of yet.  They are only allowed to purchase fifteen stamped envelopes when they go.  The last letter I received from my boyfiend he told me that he was sending his last envelope so if I did not hear from him for awhile that was why.  He was suppose to go to commissary the Friday before last but since it was a holiday he was unable to go and he did not know when they would be allowing him to go.  The one letter that you received from him was the free on that they give them when they arrive.  I am sure that there is nothing to worry about.  As far as asking questions, I have called to Graham before to ask about what type of books, etc. that I could send.  When they answered the phone I just told them what I was needing and if they could connect me to the office that could help me.  I believe that I was transferred to the records department and the woman why helped me was very nice.  If you call I would just tell them that you sent money and you were wanting to make sure that it made it.  If the money has been received I believe that the reason that you have not heard from him is just because he has be unable to go to commissary yet.  Hang in there.

Thank you samsgirl1, and I am so sorry your l/o has been stuck in there for so long. This long sit in R&C is crazy. I would love (and I am sure you would too) to have this move forward already. We have accepted fate so lets get it going already. Please keep me posted as to when your l/o gets moved.  I have been trying to see what the average there is and it seems to get longer and longer. I hope all goes well with your l/o and he gets transferred soon. Thank you again for the information, it is very helpful.

jenplus2 - Thank you and I will let you know.  I hope that it is soon.  I can tell from his letters that he is getting depressed.  Also, he is 50 years old and he has a young celly that I think is driving him crazy.  Always yelling out the door, etc.  I'm sure my boyfriend tells him to sit down and shut up.  I believe he will be going to a minimum security parent institution but he has told me that there have been other inmates that have not been there as long as him that is getting sent to minimum facilities.  I don't know if they have forgot that he is there in one of the cells or what.  He is not one to make a fuss.  What is depressing for me is when he has told me in a few of his letters that when they come around with the brown sacks (that is what they give them to put their belongings in when they are being transferred out to another facility) that they just pass by his cell.  I am sure for him it is like, oh here they come.  I wonder if I'm going to get one of those bags this time.  I know it is depressing for him and it breaks my heart to hear him tell me this.  I will keep you informed and let you know when or if he ever gets out of receiving.

It truly makes you wonder if they flaunt the brown bags in front of our l/o's to punish/break them?? I can't imagine the depression they must go through being stuck in there... it's worse than city jail and didn't think there could be worse. I wish you all the luck, and we'll keep each other posted.

I finally got a letter from D today... I posted my excitement in another post, . I did find out from him that they had commissary on the 19th so mail isn't running too bad at the moment (that was just Friday). I was unaware that they could only spend $15 while in R&C. Once they buy their toiletries, that doesn't leave much for write-outs and what nots. He says other than the boredom of staring at a brick wall 22 hours a day, 7 days a week... things aren't bad. He was in high spirits which really gave me a lot of relief. Just wanted to let everyone here know that I finally heard from him... I shouldn't be bugging ya guys with "as many" questions... . Thank you for all the support, you guys are great.

Just filling ya guys in... D's letters are quick to get to me (now that he started writing) but too him they are slow and very spread out. He wrote me on the 19th, and I got it the 23rd (there was a weekend in there). He mailed me again yesterday morning and I already got it today, which completely shocked the sh** out of me!! But in his letter he says he gets mine in spurts, like several days at once. I try and mail letters every to every other day and he goes several days to a week or so to get a lump of them. I guess they don't care what's going out, only what's coming in... I don't know wc14

That's the way it seems to work. M's letters get to me within days of mailing them, but it could take 2 weeks before he gets any of mine.

I received a letter from D today. Something in it didn't make sense. He wrote me on March 1st and said "I am leaving R&C. I won't know where I am going till the day I leave and that will be March 3rd." Do they tell them ahead of time like that? Also, I never heard anything at all from Vine and nothing has changed on the IDOC website. Is this common? I am not sure what to think?? Can I call to find out or just sit tight and wait?

You  will eventually hear from Vine and his picture should be up on the IDOC within 48 hours .. check tonight after 9PM ... Normally they don't tell the guys where they are moving them, for security reasons, but do tell them they might be moved ..  I would not call anyone, just sit tight, you will get all your questions answered soon, as to where he is.

Good Luck

Thank you Forevermah, I wasn't sure what to think. I am trying to learn that thing called patience...  emphasis on "trying".

Jenplus2... Do you have an account set up with consolidated yet? If they are moving him he will be able to call you when he gets there ( depends on the prison but sometimes that day but normally within a day or so)

I'm so glad to hear this part of your IDOC journey is done with. If you don't mind me asking, where was he sent?

Marks_guy, thank you. He was sent to Vienna. So much for them telling him level 4.... I was just getting ready to write another post to ask some questions regarding Vienna. I was actually prepared for the 4-level 4 institutes... I know nothing about Vienna. I have research to do, ugh....

My lLO has been sittin in Graham RC since Jan 22, his buddy who got there the same day has been shipped to Shawnee for 2 weeks already.  I called they told me when they get a bed available.  The transfer office is a vague as possible, understandly they don't want people trying to meet the transfer van.  I got tired of the books and magazines stacking up and him obviously thinking I forgot about him so I called and spoke with someone in the counseling office and they told me the transfer list comes out on Saturday and that I could call on Monday or Tuesday ask to speak to them and they would say whether or not he was leaving that week and he is scheduled for Wednesday transfers.  So I just put everything in the mail, and he received that by the 4th and had me a letter returned by the 9th.  I was amused that I got a large envelope back marked contraband I opened it up and I had enclosed some photos one was of my LO and his co-worker and Bam Margara from MTV and wel he was giving the rocker devil horns and they said it was GANG SIGNS.....

I guess to some farm boy in Hillsboro it probably was......:P  This is only the beginning :P

They were telling you the truth about why R&C is taking so long for some people. IDOC is really overcrowded, so they have to wait for a bed to open up at a facility he is cleared for. Look at it like this. Would you rather wait, or have him sent to a worse place?

Jamiemark1... I know this is the hardest part... my L/O sat in Graham's R & C for about 8 weeks till they got a bed open in Centralia...Hang in there & he should be at his parent prison very soon. Make sure you are registered with Vine so they can let you know when he gets moved... Vine notified me before my L/O even knew he was being transferred. Just keep writing to him, they get very bored & sometimes depressed while in  R & C since they have no outside contact. wc30
