wc41  Okay, there's absolutely nothing about Pat Quinn that I like, except he's a Democrat.  The Democrats in Illinois are sure being short-changed this election with no other viable candidate besides Quinn...As Lt. Governor he was part of the overthrow of Rod Blagojevich and stabbed him in the back to take over the throne.  He's been in politics for years and never really did much or made an impression on anyone.  He was one of those guys in the shadows, cutting ribbons at ceremonies and defending rights for veterans.  He hasn't had a very illustrious career in politics so far.

Politics as usual in Illinois means the reigning King is automatically the candidate at election time.  Quinn hasn't done much since he's been in office this past year...except screw up the Early Release program for Illinois inmates.

However, he did attempt to relieve some of the overcrowding of inmates...although he sure didn't oversee this program properly.  And when the program was criticized he turned tail and ran....and blamed HIS new hire, Michael Randle, for the well advertised problems.

So again we have a dilemna of who to vote for in Illinois.  We are left with nothing but mediocre politicians and professional candidates to choose from for our King, err, Governor.

The one bright spot is Rep. Arthur Turner, running for Lt. Governor.  Art has been a champion of prisoner rights and has worked ferociously in the Illinois House for legislation that improves the lives of our Illinois inmates and has a clear vision of what needs to be done to straighten out this Department.

I've mentioned before that in this economy and with our state budget being in such dire shape we don't need a Lt. Gov.  It's an added expense we could well do without.  But given the reality that our governors seem to be indicted like clockwork, it's an added insurance policy to have Art in this position.  He'd make a great Governor.

If history repeats itself Art will eventually be Illinois' governor.  For that reason alone I'm urging everyone to vote for Quinn for Governor as Art Turner would become Lt. Gov.

The Republican Party candidates, mostly without exception, have vowed to return executions to Illinois if they regain control.  They would stop the moratorium on executions that Gov. George Ryan put in place before he left office.  They always spout off about 'tough on crime' issues without being aware of major problems within our judicial and prison systems....they just talk the talk.  They think their constituents are impressed with their tough talking policies and promises that the streets will be safer - but at what cost to us taxpayers?

So as we head to the primary polls on Tuesday I'm reluctantly urging all those concerned with prison issues in Illinois to vote for Quinn to be the November candidate for Governor.  I do urge everyone to vote for Art Turner for Lt. Governor.

With Turner eventually at the helm we should get this state back on track.

I like this reasoning....I like the candidates that suit me...average, blue collar, American.  If single moms can raise kids in today's economy and society and get a great return, then why can't our elected officials, with all their resources, money, and aides, get this state back on track in much the same way?  Quinn is bound to show up dirty someday.  The only issue here would be if the Lt. Gov. position is abolished as is being campaigned by some of our illustrious politicians.  If the sole purpose of the Lt. Gov. is to be gov. when one gets impeached, arrested, or jailed, then Illinois will always have this job on the books!

This state is in such a mess, it would take nothing short of a miracle to get things back on track.  I just read an article the other day in our local paper that Illinois won't be able to collect the 280 million in estate tax because they failed to get things in order, which they had 10 years to do by the way, so the estate tax defaulted back to the federal standards of 2000 which is ZERO.  If Illinois doesn't get something on the books by January 1st 2011, the estate tax will default back to the federal level of 2001.

So with Illinois in such a financial deficit and now they can't collect 280 million they were depending on, I really want to know why we as taxpayers are even paying these idiots to be in office.  It is very apparent they are not doing their job and where I work if you don't do your job, you certainly are not going to get paid for it.

This state is the biggest joke of the nation and Illinois should be ashamed of themselves and all the corruption they entail.

I agree...and why do we still pay taxes on money that has been spent in the wrong way?  If 84% of my property tax bill is going to the elementary, middle, high school, and junior colleges, why are they not getting that money in the same year that I am paying those bills?  Good schools determine property values...it may not be fair but it is true. The link that Dazzler mentioned, something like Illinoisbroke.com  tells a sad story.  The same people are always feeling the pinch...it's time our politicians feel the pinch in the same way the residents of Illinois have!

wc35  I've heard of settling for the lesser of evils, but never hoping for corruption as a means to an end.

For those who are interested Quinn and Hynes are in a dead heat at 50% with 1% of the vote left to be counted.  Quinn is ahead by 7,000 votes.  It's a toss up.

Art Turner failed in his bid for Lt. Governor...he was beat out by Cohen.  It's crazy that the Governor and the Lt. Governor run independently of each other.  That's why Blago couldn't stand Quinn and never gave him any assignments.  The Lt. Governship is just a waste of taxpayers money.  A few years ago the Lt. Gov. of Illinois was so bored he just walked away from it....and quit.  The primary function is to dog the Governor and hope he leaves office...

The Trib says that Obama called Quinn to congratulate him....the Rep. race is neck and neck still between Brady and Dillard.  Someone better get this state back on track.  At an Oak Brook restaurant, we paid 11% tax!  At the mall, the sales tax was 10%...

What is Cohen like?  Scott Cohen was once charged with domestic battery for holding a knife to his girlfriend's neck and smashing her head against a wall and threatening to kill her....she didn't show up for his trial and she was later charged with prostitution.....nothing but the BEST for this state.....

He explains his past problems from 'running with the wrong crowd'..... wc41

With 100% of the vote counted Hynes has finally conceded to Quinn.  He's broken down sobbing a few times in his ridiculously long speech....he's still campaigning, even after losing....geesh, shut up already.  These are the moments that are so fulfilling to me....to see a jerk like this go down in flames.........I wonder how many inmate families voted against him?

I don't think any one polititian can fix the enormous problems facing this state. If they raise the personal income tax, and the corporate taxes like they are talking about doing, this state is going to flounder even more. You know, why can't the governor and all those down there in Springfield take a pay decrease to help ???? They make more money than what they deserve, in my opinion, cut their salaries in half and you'd see them scrambling to fix things !

So basically we got a past criminal in our government  omg.  Well he was given a second chance and really made it big  haha.     Well well they may help the criminals now.  If they clean up their act  maybe they can become governor someday   hey why not shoot for the gold and become president.
Yes, I agree  they all should take a cut in pay   but  wouldnt they give themself a bonus for doing that  haha. We all took a cut in pay (none of my jobs gave raises this year but I guarantee the managers on up got theirs).
