Dazz, very well thought out and written.

Do you know how long the MGT SMGT programs were in effect before they were put on hold over this?
I would like to include that in the comment section of my post.

Thanks

As long as I can remember...I think someone mentioned since the 70's.  This is a well-known policy among judges, prosecutors and defense attorneys also.  It is considered during sentencing.  That's what is so sad.  Many people have figured the six months extra good time into their decisions when accepting a plea bargain.

I signed too! It feels nice to be able to do something productive instead of just sitting here in New Mexico and complaining.

It's going to take a whole lot of signatures to get Quinn to sit up and realize we're a big voting block....I think inmate family members are more inclined to vote against him than the few votes he might pick up from some irrational 'tough on crime' supporters.  He needs to wake up...he didn't get that many votes in the primary....

I apologize that I am ignorant to what you are talking about.  Have they stopped good time credit?  Does this have anything to do with day for days?  Again I apologize, I have not been to this site in awhile because my LO was home but now he is back in on a parole violation.  He is supposed to be off parole on May 28, 2010 so I am assuming that he will serve half of the time that he has left on parole, bringing him home in less than a month.  Does this affect that and off the subject, do you know if they get day for day on a parole violation? He did not commit a new crime.  He was on electronic detention and didnt make it home by curfew.  Thanks for the help.

"Good time" has always seemed like a joke to me... my h. hasn't had one ticket for anything in the last five years - his behavior couldn't BE any better, yet trying to get someone to sign off on his good time requests is almost impossible.  Or if he is lucky enough to get 3 months good time back, then the next time he requests it, they deny him again... he hasn't changed anything as far as behavior but for some reason they just don't feel like giving it to him that time.  Good time has nothing to do with how "good" you are.  Very frustrating.  It's just like their procedure for filing a 'grievance'... they make it sound good and 'fair' but you rarely win with that either.

Trishhh, this is the additional six months good time awarded to inmates for good behavior and due to overcrowding....it's called Meritorious Good Time, not day for day.

We have 39 signatures in less than an hour.  I've already received an email from US Cong. Bobby Rush's ex. assistant asking if Mr. Rush could be of any help to us in our quest to restore MGT.   Hell, yeah!!!

The petition can be viewed by the public at any time.  The comments are viewable.   I've emailed the link to our 5,000+ members and there are state officials on that list.  I've also asked all our prison reform friends to pass this email to their list-serves, which they are doing.  We've added Tamms Ten Year committee as a co-sponsor and hoping more groups will join us.  The power of numbers is amazing isn't it?
