Welcome to IPT!
Best bet is to call Vienna and ask what can be brought in with the baby. and what IDs exactly can be used. I believe a SS card for secondary is good. 618-658-4311. I know they say BC is needed for the kids. But call and double check and let them know u don't have the BC yet and see what they say. I would hate for you to get there and the BC is needed. It normally takes about 2 weeks for the list to be approved. There is a bus co that goes down there Ms. T you can go to the home page of IPT and put in Ms. T or bus transportation. My hubby is in Vienna, we do not get visits so I can not offer personal experiences. I am writing in Dec to ask for permission to visit and if all goes well I will be going down there in Feb.. Good Luck and you will find IPt is wonderful for support, advice and just all around great for getting thru this hard time.

Hi! I have a question about calling Vienna. My husband has been there over 2 weeks and still no call. I called consolidated Friday to be sure phone was set up right and she told me it is set up and that he has been calling me for 7 days but cannot get through. She said it is because Vienna has still not approved the phone list. I asked if I should call Vienna and the lady told me absolutely not to call because if I get someone in a crabby mood they will make things harder for my husband. Do I just need to keep waiting?? has anyone else had this experience at Vienna? Thank you

He may not realize that he should get notification of when his list is approved. He may be trying to call thinking that since he submitted the list, it's automatically approved. You can write him and hope he gets it in a timely manner to let him know that you have the phone set up but that Consolidated told you the list hasn't been approved yet. Then he could ask his counselor about the list. He might be calling knowing full well it's not been approved yet but hoping that maybe the next call will go through. IDOC does things on their own time. Some lists are approved very quickly but some aren't. Try to be patient and know that he should be notified when his list is approved. The Consolidated agent was right in not calling and just waiting a while longer. You never know who you're going to end up getting at IDOC on the other line. SOme are very helpful while others don't want to bother with you. Just depends on who answers. If you do call to check and see, I would ask to speak to his counselor. Don't ask the question of the first person who answers the phone. It's always going to be a CO who answers first and they won't really be able to tell you or they may not even want to and you'll get an answer similar to "he has to tell you that himself." Hang in there!

Maybe you don't understand the process. The lists go to the Internal Affairs department and they have to check all those names for various red flags. It takes time and with the overcrowding in all the prisons I'm sure it's taking even longer. You just have to be patient or you'll make yourself crazy. The IDOC does everything in it's own time and nothing is fast enough for LO's at home. The worst thing you can do is become a pest and call the prison for answers. They expect the inmates to supply answers to their own families. They don't have the time to take phone calls all day long about phone and visiting lists....it'll happen when it happens. If there's some reason you know of why you might not be approved, then you can worry...otherwise it'll be approved usually within a month.

What's probably making you crazy is...you were told he has been trying to call every day. I don't know if your LO has been in before but my son never was until now. He wasn't told or wasn't listening that his phone list would take time and they would notify him when it's approved. He found this out after his cellie told him the ropes.

No, we have had no experience with the prison system before. but I was told that inmates are not necessarily notified when their list is finally approved. So many will just keep trying in hopes that they get through. The operator told me he was calling at intervals that are generally recommended if an inmate is trying to see if they can get through. It is so frustrating.

thought i would share and ask.. that my l/o was going to store like every 2 weeks and it seems to be back to once a month and they are running out of items. The one big thing is write outs.
I just wanted to pass along this info but also see if anyone else is experience this? He is 2 house if that helps or matters.
thx
