From Bill Ryan and those concerned about the welfare of Montell Johnson:
That Montell Johnson is alive today has to be classified in the miracle category and a tribute to the undying love and concern of his mother Gloria. What is happening to Montell is bizarre,mean and cruel beyond description. consider:
1.Montell has been pardoned by two governors,
2. Montell remains in prison b/c of an agreement almost 20 yeArs ago between CA and Ill saying that if Ill didnt execute Montell he would have to return to CA to stand trial
3.Montell almost died as a result of bedsore cause by inadequate medical care by IDOC
4.Montell has progressive MS and can only communicate with his mother who travels six hour every day to visit; Montell was given six months to live several months ago.
5. Now a Federal Judge in CA says have Montell has to return for medical care to California that is under Federal receivership b/c of inferior medical care.
6. On top of all this Montell is probably innocent of the charge that got him sentenced to death in iIllinois.
Please help Montell by contacting officials in California:
Montell Johnson is in immediate danger! Yesterday the U. S. District Court of Eastern California summarily dismissed Montell Johnson’s motion barring the California Department of Rehabilitation and Correction from rendering Montell Johnson from the custody of the Illinois Department of Corrections, in spite of the fact that Montell requires 24 x 7 nursing care to just survive every day, and despite the fact that the CDRC medical system has been placed into receivership and the State has refused to comply with federal court orders to provide the funds necessary for the most basic medical care of prison inmates. Although they will appeal the dismissal, Montell’s attorneys are not optimistic in the current judicial climate of succeeding.
A direct appeal to California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to commute his sentence is the only certain path open to saving Montell’s life at this point. We believe that if the Governor and/or his spouse, Maria Shriver, were aware of this situation they would act quickly to end it. The NAARPR Chicago Branch appeals to all people to write and call Governor Schwarzenegger and his wife to bring this to their attention. Their contact information is below:

I too will call first thing Monday morning!!!! Lets burn up their phone line IPT. We do it here in Illinois so lets do it in California for a much needed cause.

IDOC shows Montell was released on Monday to Parole. Does anyone have any information on what happened?? Did California finally make the right decision and leave him alone? Thank God and I pray Montell is doing well!

I am so happy I could cry. I am aware California is releasing some sick inmates due to the overcrowding and I was wondering if they would be looking to let Montell go. I do know the agreement states California can take him back into custody if his medical condition improves.

Wow, what can I say, this is fantastic news....a long time coming, but fantastic. I have thought and wondered about Montell over the years. I wonder what made them change their minds?
