Well I found out this morning after the DOC site was updated my hubby is in Pittsfield work camp. I have read some of the posts on here but some of my questions are still unanswered.... Does anyone know where I am supposed to send mail? And will this change things on how long it will take for him to call me? He already has his pin # for the phone because this is his 3rd trip. Also, I see that people have posted they have gotten visits in Jville and Pittsfield so whats the difference? Do we pick where we want to visit them or does the IDOC? Also, do they sometimes send ppl to work camp while waiting for work release? because his plan from the beg. has been to go to work release.

Here is one topic you might want to read:

http://www.illinoisprisontalk.org/index.php/topic,21832.0.html

Also, go to the front page of IPT and do a search for Pittsfield and see what comes up.

My Lo was transferred to Pittsfield once he was approved for work release. He stayed there for about 3 weeks before he was transferred to Peoria ATC. The visiting there wasn't bad, set up kind of like a break room at your job and the Co's seemed pretty nice as well. As for the address I just went on the IDOC sight and got the address to write him from there.

My hubby is there. The visits are very laid back. The CO's are laid back and nice as well. If he's at the work camp, that's where the visits take place. I'm not sure why some people got their visits at Jville. If he hasn't already been accepted for work release, he'll do his time at the work camp while he waits for the approval or denial. To send mail, it all has to be sent through Jville mailroom, not to the work camp. So mail takes a little longer since they have to screen it there then send it off to the camp. If he already has his pin number then he should be able to call you here shortly in the next few days once he's all settled and they've done an orientation with him. Once you do talk to him, let me know which house he's in if you want. I visit at least 3 times per month. The work camp visit hours are from 9am-3pm so they aren't as late as some of the other prisons that have visit up until 8pm.

As for the work release, if he hasn't applied for it yet, the counselor there will give him the paperwork to fill out and start the process. From that point, it'll just be a waiting game to see if he's accepted and then, if he is, sent to ATC. Bed space for IDOC is still very crowded everywhere so even if he is accepted, it may take a while for him to be able to get transferred to an ATC. Try to be patient!

My son is at Pittsfield. He says that it is not bad there at all. He has been approved for Carbondale ATC and is just waiting to be transfered.
