Hi, can anyone tell me what exactly seg is? Explain it in the easiest way possible because honestly I don't understand any of this stuff. I'm sure people have asked before but I'm new and figured I'd just ask instead of trying to search for it. So, I apologize ahead of time.

Welcome to IPT! The inmates are put into Seg/Segregation when they have done something seriously wrong or if they refuse to share a cell with someone, etc. They are locked down for 24 hours a day in a cell by themselves and all privileges are taken away. They cannot make phone calls, but if they have writeouts, they can continue to write and receive mail. It's also called the hole. It all depends on what the infraction was that put them there, as to how long they will stay. Some can be there for weeks, some months.

My LO just went into seg the other day and I just found out this a.m. Someone at Menard just told me that they can only hold them there for 10 days. It's not necessarily his fault but they do this to investigate whatever the problem was or is. They might have heard something or said something or even did something she stated she had no record of what the infraction was as of yet. He was in medium security on the hill now down below. If any one has more info on infractions please let me know. inmates mama

He will appear before the adjustment committee within two weeks and they will decide what his punishment will be. They probably will not tell you, you'll have to wait to get a letter from him, explaining. If you go to this link and click on the link to the gov page for Title 20, Administrative Code, you can look up I think it's Part 504 for discipline and grievances. http://www.illinoisprisontalk.com/index.php/topic,174.0.html

Hopefully your son has write-outs and will get a letter out to you soon, to let you know what is going on. He is locked down in SEG by himself for now.

They sometimes don't take a new picture, showing them in the brown jumpsuit that SEG inmates wear.

Okay, so I just got a letter and was told that he didn't get any extra time added on but they're transfering him to a different prison. Do I keep writing this prison and wait to find out where he's going or do I stop and then wait and see? Will he get them if I keep sending him letters? I really hope this one is closer. This is stressing me out so much. My luck this is going to be one even farther away. *sigh* =[

Nothing is wrong, I just merged them together since this a continuation of your other posts. You can continue to write, your letters will be forwarded or you can wait and check the IDOC website after 9PM each evening until he is moved and then write to him at his new facility. It may take a while for the letters you write to the old facility time to catch up, I would just wait till he is transferred.

He doesn't know if it's going to be this wednesday or next wednesday so I'm thinking I'll send one tomorrow and then wait and check. :(

If you are signed up with VINE, the service will let you know when he is transferred. When M was moved from P'ville to BMR, I was notified, and I immdiately sent off a letter to the new prison. He was impressed that I was so on the ball. LOL

So sorry to0 hear about the transfer. I'm so glad my husband did not get transferred last week. He was in seg too, the other inmate started a fight, and they told my husband that because he punched the guy back they are going to punish him too, so he got 30 days C-grade and 30 days added to his time, which sucks. And they said next time they will transfer him. And I soooo don't want it to happen. Taylorville is far enough, What if they transfer him even further away so I won't be able to visit??? So i understand your worries, piirate. Good luck!!! I hope they will move your l/o closer to you!!!

Thank you. He is about 8 hours away from me so I can't go all that often especially with the way gas is going up and up and up. He said he got 1 month seg 2 months c grade and they're transfering him but they didn't add any time on. I'm trying to keep myself busy and not think about it so much but it's really not working. =[

Also, how do you write the envelopes out for this one? I know dumb question but oh well. I got a real nervous feeling when I got this email. =[
