my friend told me that this guy shes writing whos in the same place my love's was just sent. and she told me that they closed down commissary for 2 week. ive never heard of them closing commissary. does anyone know anything about it?

Mine is at Menard. Last week they that one closed due to restocking what they told him and they didnt get to go.

Mrs B when they are doing inventory they close it down, where my hubby is they do inventory I think once a month and during that time they are not able to go to the store.

I remember once when J was at Stateville they had it down for like a month. Although I think part of that month they were on lockdown too. My J ran out of envelopes and I didn't hear.from him that month :(

Yes, they can close commissary down at any time.  This is from Title 20 about commissary operations, nothing there about when or if it can be shut down.

Section 210.20  Commissary Operations

 a)         Each adult and juvenile facility may establish a commissary or canteen for committed persons.

 
b)         Items sold in the committed persons' commissary shall be shown on an approved listing of standard commissary items.

 

c)         Commissary credit shall not be extended.

 
d)         Committed persons or employees assigned to commissaries where non-packaged food is handled shall be screened by medical staff prior to commencing work in food service areas.
