Since my Husband is coming home, They mentioned an ankle monitor but he does not know the details of that yet.I know he has to find a job so I am assuming it will be the alcohol monitor. I was wondering who pays for that? He can't be on house arrest because he'll have to go to work, and how long will he have to wear it?  Thanks Judy

The anklets hook up to a landline phone and you have to pay for that, not the anklet itself.  The anklet will connect with the phone, so IF you have call waiting on there, you must always switch over so that the anklet can connect to the call so they don't violate him for not being there.

The PO will give him instructions on just where he can go and when and he will have to conform to that.

We just had a few discussions on EHM = Electronic Home Monitoring, do a search on the front page of IPT for this and you'll be able to read more on it.

I was reading that there is a cost for the bracelet/moniter box. Does anyone know what the cost is. I have Verizon for a landline phone.

Before my l/o went to back he was on an anklet and it just plugged into the wall it can b hooked up to a landline but it can also be "cellular" meanin through the power. there's no cost for him being on it but the box apparently is worth 6k.... weird right for a box of plastic, lol. but they have to be able to have a phone number to call to check on him if he goes outta range from the base at the house. and if he gets a job his po should give him movement for the times he's scheduled for work. this is just in my experience. hope it helps :)

So it is offical that my l/o will be coming home with ankle monitor. He will have to wear it for 90days. Does anyone know if this is an alochol monitor system or if it is just like a house arrest monitor system that the IDOC is doint this for most inmates that parole?  turksm

I don't know of an alcohol monitor....he should be getting RF - radio frequency monitor....the old kind...it works by a radio signal between the ankle monitor and the monitor box...if that signal is broken, meaning the parolee has gone beyond his limit of feet, it will trip the signal and send a phone message to the IDOC.  If he stays within the range he's allowed he'll be fine...but please discourage hiim from any type of alcohol...it only leads to trouble and stupidty....if you're asking then there must be some concern....

Thanks for your response. I am worried that he is going to be wanting to drink once he gets out. I cant stop him but I do try to discourge him by telling him that if he violates by drinking he will go right back in. He does not want to go back I do know that. He isn't the type that goes to bars and runs around he does his drinking at home. He is an alcoholic and even after not drinking for 6 months he still craves the taste for alcohol. I have told him that with him being on parole he will not be able to drink that his parole officer can show up unannounced at anytime so its not a good idea. I'm not much on drinking but do enjoy and beer every once in a while when watching sports on my day off. I haven't had one since he has been in and could live without it just wish he could. He has 88 days left and wish there was some magic pill or something to give people with addictions to make their brain not crave or have the urge to get their fix. Don't know of anything I can do but discourge him not to do it. Threaten him will not do anything but make the drinking worse or cause a fight. He is a good person and I would hate to see him go back to prison over alcohol especially when they do not rehabilitate or offer some kind of support while locked up.  napturk

When my inmate was being released and his parole agent came for the home inspection she asked me what J's 'drug of choice' was...and she made sure he was required to go to substance abuse programs...maybe you can do the same...alcholism leads to nothing but recidivism...and he'll be back inside in no time, regardless whether it's a violation for drinking or not...he'll find some new kind of trouble to get into...

I hope and pray that will not be the case. I know he will have go to alcohol treatment classes as part of his parole maybe they will help him refrain. He was going to them before he went in. I really hope he takes it serious. Only time will tell if his freedom is worth more than the buzz and back in the slammer. He now knows what its like to be in prison and he has been suffering not because its so bad on the inside its because he lost his freedom and all that goes along with it. He is spending Thanksgiving, his birthday and Christmas trapped. Hope he has learned a leason. I want to think positive. I will do all that I can to support him in staying sober I would even go to the classes with him. Maybe discourging him from drinking and the classes along with prayer will be all it takes.

Well, for 90 days at least you can keep him sober....he can't go buy it himself...and if you don't supply it for him, or friends bring it to him it should be easy to keep him off of it....at least til the monitor comes off.  I wish you well.

Is there going to be a device on the vehicle or will he be driving at all? The best thing you can do is go to AA, and learn ....was this what he went in for, the booze???/

He went in for the booze. Its a wonder he didn't get caught before he did. He was traveling to see me 1.5 hours away when he got caught now I live in his house. He had the box installed in his Vehicle already but was caught driving another vehicle that's why we got charged with aggravated DUI. Not sure how long his license will be suspended. Dazz your right as long as he can not get the booze then he can't drink it. Its just hard to understand why someone would even want to touch the stuff after its put him through so much misery and he hasn't had it for 6 months. Hopefully this has a learning experience for him.
