Republican state Rep. Randy Ramey cited for drunken driving

BY DAVE MCKINNEY Springfield Bureau Chief dmckinney@suntimes.com August 30, 2011 1:46PM

SPRINGFIELD — The new chief of the DuPage County Republican Party apologized Tuesday after being arrested and charged for drunken driving over the weekend.

State Rep. Randy Ramey (R-Carol Stream) was charged with driving under the influence and improper lane use after police in Carol Stream observed him driving his vehicle erratically and crossing the center line on Lies Road at 2:10 a.m. Sunday.

“I regret and take full responsibility for my actions, and I am prepared to face the consequences,” Ramey said in a statement.

After being stopped, Ramey told police he had been drinking, failed four field-sobriety tests and registered a .179 blood-alcohol level, which is more than twice the .08 legal driving limit, Carol Stream Police Chief Kevin Orr said.

Orr, who described Ramey as “very cooperative,” said there were no passengers in his vehicle, and no injuries or property damage resulted from the incident.

Very interesting to see what his sentence ends up being. My hubby got 2 years for Agg DUI and he only blew a .1. This guy blowing an almost .2...I'm guessing I bet he gets probation and a fine. Just goes to show though, with IL not messing around with DUI's anymore, that DUI can happen to ANYONE these days.

I know quite a few people that got fined and lost of DL for 30 days to think he will get more, if this is his first time like theirs.

A republican comrade sits on the appellate panel so he's in the clear sooner or later.

i only bet when i think I'm gonna win..
i too know people that DL taken for 3-6 months on a first time, so we'll see.. its sad that he probably will go free and clear no fines or anything... its when they injure someone that these high profile people get introuble, and sometime even then enough $ pull and power nothing... but then again look at Ryan and a few other ex governors... so who knows....

The head of the DuPage County Republican Party pleaded guilty Monday to a DUI charge stemming from an August drunken driving arrest.

State Rep. Randy Ramey (R-Carol Stream) was sentenced to one year of court supervision and fined $1,750, Carol Stream Police Chief Kevin Orr said. Ramey also was ordered to undergo counseling, perform 100 hours of community service and attend a victim impact panel.

Ramey was charged with driving under the influence and improper lane use after Carol Stream police observed him driving his vehicle erratically and crossing the center line on Lies Road at 2:10 a.m. Aug. 28.

After being stopped, Ramey told police he had been drinking, failed four field-sobriety tests and registered a .179 blood-alcohol level, which is more than twice the .08 legal driving limit, police said.

Ramey was in his vehicle by himself at the time.

He is the stepson of former Senate President James “Pate” Philip (R-Wood Dale), and took over the helm of the DuPage County Republican Party in July, filling the unexpired term of Dan Cronin as party chair.

Cleaner than my hubby who got two years for blowing a .1. He was in the car by himself and there was no property damage either.

I'm guessing this was the Rep.'s first offense (which is a misdemeanor) that qualified him for supervision and community service.  Unfortunately, most of our LOs offenses were aggravated and/or repeat offenders.

Prison is usually reserved for repeat offenders unless it's a serious aggravated crime....for those that were given a chance and didn't learn from it...

The bigger picture here is that the Carol Stream police didn't cut him a break and drive him home....he lives in Carol Stream to boot....I'd say the town is run by Republicans because it's Dupage County...and I'd say that cop and police chief are going to suffer repercussions somewhere down the road....I hope it was worth the gold star in their caps now...causes they're gonna pay for it...

I am personally proud of the officer and the chief because driving him home, then the next time he may have killed one of their l/o. I think the law is the law no matter what your party is..If they suffer any for it they have a conscience they have to live with. What is going to happen to the judge? Is his officer community service? it should be cleaning up after a fatal crash of a DUI, the people is still going to pay for it.
