My man will be coming to Stateville on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011 for processing. New inmate. How long will it take for him to be processed and sent to a mother prison. He is there for a class 4. Minimum security should apply. And also, can he write home and recieve letters while he waits? Can he call?

My L/O also was in on a class 4 and spent 23 days in R&C before being sent to his parent facility.  During that time, he was not allowed visits, phone calls, or commissary.  They are locked down 24/7, and only get one shower and shave a week and one hour of yard time (spent in a concrete box).  My L/O only had a bible to read until he received books and magazines I sent him, which took close to 3 weeks to get to him.  He was able to get one write-out during that time, so I got one letter.  He was sent to Logan, which is a medium security prison, although he was also eligible for minimum security.  He really likes Logan, and I have found the employees there to be very friendly and helpful.  Everyone in his house has less than five years to serve, so it is unlikely that an inmate would risk more time by fighting or breaking major rules.  With the overcrowding in IDOC, inmates seem to spend more time in R&C than the two week norm of years back.  Know that R&C is the worst time of all, but they get through it and then appreciate their parent facility that much more.  The hardest part is the fact that you can have no contact with your inmate, except the letters you send to him, during that time.  My inmate said that my letters were the only thing that kept him sane during the R&C process, so write often and send reading materials.  Good luck, this time will be over eventually and phone calls and visits will start once he is at his parent facility.

Welcome to IPT. You may want to read the board getting started in IDOC that will help you to learn the process, and will help you make it thru R&C
