My loved one's property/money is split between 2 different places.(so i have been told )I was told by Chicago PD I need a notarized letter from him in order to get it.But I received a letter from him yesterday that he can't do it from there. Can I ask the Judge on Monday if she can write something and both of them sign it?Has anyone ever been thru something like this before? Is it even true that half his money is on Homan & Roosevelt and the other half is somewhere else?I don't want to look stupid in court on Monday but I really need that $ he had with him.

Why are you appearing in court Monday?  Since when do Police department's hold an inmate's property...it should've gone to the County jail with him...to be forwarded to the IDOC eventually....

The last I knew an inmate can sign a release form to have someone retrieve his property...

I am not appearing in court on Monday he is,but he told me that because he had $1000 with him only $500 went to county with him and the rest went to Homan and Roosevelt. And when I called CPD they told me I needed a letter from him in order to get it.That's why I was wondering if the judge can write something on Monday while he is in court so I can get the $ I need it That is my rent $.So where is this $?My husband told me it's split.I am so confused???????Help me.

Okay, well then it'll be up to him to get someone to release his money and ask the judge...not you.  First of all I don't understand his money being split up by anyone...that's not customary...what would the reason be?  Did he already release $500 of that money to someone else at the police station?  Something sounds bogus to me....sounds like $500 was spent somewhere or given out already...where's his property slip with the amount of money he had on him when he was booked?  He's got it...ask him...

And if he's got $500 at County with him then tell him to sign a release to have it turned over to you....

I would think that jails in different counties do things mainly the same way. I was able to get my son's property on our first visiting day. My son signed a pre-printed form he filled out with what and who was picking it up. I then signed the same form and got the property items.

That's how it works in Cook, Dupage, Kane and Lake counties...very simple process...just show your driver's license to receive the property...I've picked up my cell phone, money, his shoes, all types of things over the years...never had a problem...what's not picked up moves with him...in his property box.

I had to go to Maywood PD to pick up my husband's property... For some reason they did not transfer it to Cook County.

When my hubby was arrested in Feb 2011, his property stayed and the PD..
I had to go to the PD where he was arrested to get his wallet, belt, shoe laces, wedding band and earring... He was arrested from our home so he didnt have his cell or $ on him. Since I was his wife the arresting officer gave it to me. I didnt have a problem getting it.
When he left county he didnt have anything but old work clothes so he told me to leave it.

Yea when mine got arrested they did it at our house so he left his wallet, cell phone and keys on the table but they let him use his cell phone to call me and his mom to tell us wat his bond would be and to tell me to get my butt home b4 he left. when he got arrested after his trial his sister had to go up and get his belt, wallet, keys and whatever else he had on him bc i was to much of a wreck to deal with them taking him away that day.

Hi- Well, it's been a month since my husband was moved from county. Can I call to see if his stuff is still there? I don't know if he filled out a form and since there is a delay in his phone list I have not been able to speak with him about this. Would I just call the County jail and would they know if he filled out a form already?  Thank you

I would call the county jail ASAP and inquire about his stuff because they only hold it for a certain # of days.
