I got a letter from my fiance today. He's still in recieving at Statesville waiting to go to bootcamp. He said his 60th day is comming up and he can start getting visits. He said he put my name on the list...but I thought I couldnt visit since im on probation? So does that mean i'm approved? And if I go, it says i need two forms of ids. Does a birth certificate count?

A birth certificate is acceptable. Ordinarily at most prisons you must fill out a form when you visit for the first time and on that form you will be asked about pending cases, parole, probation, and criminal record. They will then run you through the computer and find out if you're telling the truth. It's at this point you may be questionned and rejected. However, it's best to be honest. If you lie outright and they find out your visits will be rejected completely. Are you on misdemeanor or felony probation?

They should tell him if the people on his visiting list was approved/denied because you usually have to find out straight from the inmate if you've been approved or not. They may deny you without stepping foot inside if they run you and see you're his co-defendant. In a case like that, you may need special permission from the warden to visit. Many times victims of the inmate aren't allowed to visit which makes me think that co-defendants wouldn't be allowed, unless granted permission, also. Wait for Dazz to answer you. Just be patient and she'll come back around and shed some more light on this. Hang in there.

Go to the home page and in the search put visiting on parole and the statues are there, and how you can go about it.

Here is an explanation about the visiting lists and being "approved":
When an inmate submits their visiting list, it is just a bunch of names. That initial list is approved, meaning the couselor (or whoever) has received it and put it in the inmate's file. An individual isn't actually approved until they let you into the visiting room.

being put on the list dont mean nothing. You can call the counselor and see if you were approved

You are actually approved at the first visit after completing the visitor's information form...and if you're his codefendent it's highl unlikely you'll be approved. If you're on felony probation you must explain the circumstances, the disposition of the case, etc....I think you'll be refused. But hey, you might slip through the cracks....

My daughter was on probation and tried to go see her BF and she had to get permission from the Warden. I don't know if things are different in all facilities, but it is good just to call and ask a general question before you waste your time and get refused. If you are probation about the same case with him they might say no. Also I was told unless your BF has a permanent place in Stateville that you can not have any visit, since they are locked up most of the time. My husband was in Stateville for 45 days and I started calling Springfiels and that did speed things up a little. Good Luck
