Does anyone know the procedure for either taking or sending clothes for an inmate to wear home when released? If sending them, isnt there a chance of them being stolen or misplaced. He is at J-ville and at first he said he would change in the car but now he saw a guy leaving in street clothes the other day so now he wants to wear new clothes out. I say who cares who sees you in what, you are finally free, but thats just me. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks...........

You can send him clothes, they must all be put into one box and mailed no sooner than one month before he is to be released.  The CO's will hold it all, after checking it all in, until he is to be released.

I believe if you go to the Parole-Re-Entry board, they may be other topics about this too, just do a search on that board.

Just make sure it all goes in one box, shoes, shirt, pants, socks, etc.. whatever you send him and mail it at that one month mark or after.

Instead of sending them in, can I take them with me at a visit? No one is available to ask until Monday,so was just wondering if anyone knew, it sure would save some money to take them wiht me instead of paying postage. Thanks for the quick response.

As far as I know if you take them with he will have to change later, the guards will not give the clothes to him that morning.  I took my LO's clothes with and we stoppedat the first gas station for him to change.  I didn't understand the big deal either, bu it seems they just want to shed those issue clothes right away.

Hope this helped.  Happy Holidays!

My husband was in pontiac awaiting a parole hearing and I asked about coming home clothing and they told me to bring clothes with when picking him up and he could change off grounds when released.  He wore out the prison clothing and was told to throw them away.  This was 9-2011.

I just called a Jacksonville property officer and he told me that I can bring his street clothes the morning he gets out and they will let him change out before he leaves. He said its better that way because they dont have them sitting in his dept. for 30 days. If sending them I would have to mail them in 30 days in advance of his release date. Thanks everyone and Happy Holidays.

Vandalia allows the clothes to be sent in about 2 weeks prior to release. My guy also wants his clothes sent in, he doesn't even want to leave the prison in prison sweats. He would rather leave all of it behind when he walks out those gates.

Like Terri my guy is at Vandalia... I asked my guy if he would like for me to send him some clothes to come in prior to me getting there to pick him up and he said to just not worry bout it... There is a hotel I'm getting the day before that is 1.7 miles away from the prison and he says he can just change there among doing other things that we are both just dieing to do  3 months and 2 days til this FINALLY happens and I cant hardly wait wc50 mistlekiss
