omg! That sounds like BS! I really dont know the answer though :( I would think it is BS for the sheer fact that a lot of us end up applying for assistance BECAUSE our man got incarcerated! (true in my case anyways) I truly hope someone else comes by with an authentic answer cause the question has me buggin for real! And Im sorry you are going through this... As if you havent gone through enough! I know you have to be majorly frustrated!

I know I live in another state, but I used to work for DHS, and paroles would come in all the time and apply for benefits or come in with family to be added to the case after coming home from prison. I think she is lying. Can you talk to someone over her??? I hope you get it figured out and he comes home before christmas!

You can give Field Services a call and ask then that question. You might want to leave out the name of your lo's PO though. If he/she is telling him one thing and then you call Field Services to ask if it's BS, his PO may get even more annoyed with him and hate him even more making his parole fairly hellish. I would call Field Services and just ask the question in general terms rather than "My LO's PO told him..." See what they have to say in general terms.
When my hubby paroled, one of the first things we did was apply for assistance not knowing if he was going to get his job back. His PO hasn't said anything to him about it not being allowed. in fact, I don't even know if his PO knows or even cares. Let us know what you find out.

It does sounds like BS, I would give field services a call and like bmonska said leave out the name of the PO.... My lo PO didn't ask me was I receiving food stamps/medical assistance, that's not any of there business and my lo got approved for my home. I think its truly some BS.

Some parolees qualify for food stamp assistance after release. The rule that I am aware of is that a felon cannot apply or live in HUD/Section 8 housing.

I am not sure if things changed but when my hubby was paroled home (2003) they didnt even ask me. I had medical card and link. It was not even brought up. I know if the family is on hud or section 8 a parolee can not live there.
I would call field services or even springfield and ask in general.

ok. ty all for your reply's.... i called field services bright and early this morning and he tried to help as best he could but said i'd be better off calling the 800 number.... so i did. the nice man told me it is in fact a law that they aren't supposed to be released to a home receiving assistance, but that it was also in the po's hands of continuing to approve the home in light of that. i don't understand why it's that way considering alot of people right now have to have some kind of assistance and i know alot of guys get out and apply for themselves. i sorta wish she was just bs me now.... so i guess it's in her hands if he comes home or not considering i am the only place he has to go.

When my brother came home 3 years ago he paroled to my mothers house and I have another brother living there with his kids who he is raising with my mothers help (no mother involved) and he has the link and medical card, and that was also not brought up at all.....he was approved for parole with no problems. I also have heard the same thing about not being able to live in the section 8 homes, not even if they are on probation. Good luck!!!!

PO's don't normally ask about the family being on assistance...however, if they make a home visit and it's quite obvious that the family is getting some state aid and the burden of a parolee living with them might not be an ideal situation, the site may be rejected. The family that the PO is paroling to should have the financial means of supporting him until he's able to support himself or he could be under pressure to obtain money for that family...possibly illegal....you have to think these things through so you understand why rules are rules..
Parolees may not go to a home under Section 8.
How could he get on your med card? Are you married to him?
I think if the parole agent already has such an intense dislike for your LO I wouldn't be stirring the pot....they have a way of violating parolees in a heartbeat that they don't like....be cautious.

the assistance isnt the only financial means it's just that she has paroled him to people before that were receiving some kind of assistance and just b/c its me she isnt wanting to allow it. we aren't under section 8 is why i figured she was bs'n about the stipulations. we arent married yet but he can get on my case and under my med card. i kno for a fact. i'm not tryin to stir it but i am the only place he has other then sittin for the rest of his term so i was doin what i could and if it happens she wont let him then i wont feel like i didnt do everything i could.
