scrooge My husband was transferred to Vandalia from Stateville yesterday, he has to complete 4 months before being released.  Does anyone know if he will have time to complete a class or program in order to receive good time credits so that he can be released sooner.  I read on the IDOC website that you get 1/2 day for every day you attend and complete a program or work however, I was also told that allot of the program take 90 days to complete.  Is this true?  Or, can he work and receive good time for that or do they require you to work a minimum amount of days.  Please provide info..  Also, he was at Stateville 9 days before being transferred to Vandalia, I haven't talked to him since he left the cook county.  I did call consolidated and set up a phone account but she said I was not on his approved list yet because of course he had just got there, does anyone know how long it will take for him to make calls and how long it takes for his money from the county to follow him to Vandalia?  He got 18 months for driving on revoked license more than once, I have never visited a prison before nor has he ever been in prison, this is new to us so I would appreciate any assistance or help with information or things that I should know in advance or anything should expect.

Thanks orna

You can start here on this board, there are many topics on Vandalia that others have started and questions answered:

http://www.illinoisprisontalk.org/index.php/board,15.0.html

He can only get time for classes, not working at a job in IDOC.  Since his time is so short, he probably would not have enough time to get into a class and finish it!  His phone list could take up to two weeks to be approved once he hands it in.

Take your time and read up on Vandalia here on IPT, there is alot of information posted.  Just do a search on the front page of IPT and anything pertaining to V will come up!

Hi mshim! My guy is at Vandalia too and also like yours he is serving time for 2 driving on revokeds... He got 2 years which means he has to do 1 year... he has 88 days left as of today... It sucks that they charge them with so much time for only driving a car isnt it? I highly doubt that your guy will get into a program to get time knocked off, because the prisons are so overcrowded and they usually let people with more time left take the programs rather than the short timers... In my situation my guy Tony got calls and visits REALLLLY QUICK within about 2 to 3 days for the phone calls and about 4 to 5 days to be able to get visits... If I were you I wouldnt get your hopes up for it to happen quite that quick because this was verrrry quick for him... I would give it 2 to 3 weeks probably... IT took about a month for Tonys money to get to him from receiving  in hillsboro (graham)... If there are any questions you need to know about Vandalia about visits phone calls anything just send me a private message and I will get back to you as soon as possible girl... Good luck with everything! mistlekiss

My l/o entered Vandalia on November 30th and was able to call home on December 1.  His visit list has been approved and I am headed down to see him this weekend.  He also said that it is VERY crowded down there.  I might have more info after my visit on Sunday.

Thank for the responses,  Wow, he got down there on the 30th and was able to make calls the next day?  I still haven't got a call but I did set up the account.  The lady at consolidated said I cn call them back to find out if I am on his approved list so I will do that today.  Hopefully he will call soon so I can go and visit.

The classes were wishful thinking especially with him have such a short length of time to go.  Just thought I would ask.

Thanks again!

I dont know how long your l/o was in Stateville or if he's been down before and that might be what it is as well.  My l/o has been down before and already had a PIN set up with Consolidated from his last bit.  He was in Stateville for 13 days and submitted my number as soon as he was able to when he got there.  My l/o is down for the same thing as your BUT, he just doesnt learn...so he has a longer sentence than yours (4 years).

Good luck and I hope you hear from him soon.  My l/o is finally out of receiving in Vandalia but I did not receive any details when he called this morning.. We will have plenty of time once I get there on Sunday... I am so looking forward to it.

LSlater, This is his first time so he does not have a pin number.  Everything is a process I see!  How long did it take for you L/O to get out of receiving at Vandalia?  This is the first time I've heard about this.  I'm glad I found this site because I would be so lost. I am surprised that there are so many people locked up for driving on revoked License.  We thought that it was unusual to get over a year for this but I guess not.  You would think that they would offer house arrest or something since the jails are overcrowded.

MsHim1973, yeah I was really surprised as well.  He arrived in Vandalia on the 30th and was in receiving until I think yesterday.  So that would mean a little over a week.  At least from what I can tel lit ws about a week.  We were kind of hoping that they would send him home on house arrest as well because as long as he can not leave the house he can not repeat the offense and he would also not be crowding the prison when it is really not needed.
