I was wondering how if anyone knew how long the mail at Menard is taking to get to inmates these days? Thanks.

My l/o is still getting letters I wrote in November some days, but others, he gets are around 7 to 10 days old. It is never the same from day to day. It was taking 10 days to get a letter from him, but now it takes just 6. I live in Indiana

Thanks a lot for replying! That's not too bad, which is good news. I heard that at one point, the mail was backed up by a month! So, that's not bad at all. Thanks again, and take care.

It was for awhile. Last April they were still getting over the holiday mail, it was really slow.

Outgoing mail is now taking longer as well. The delay started before the holidays. It's so frustrating. Where it used to take 2 days to get his mail, it's now taking a week. His parents have also noticed a delay. Just wish the USPS would find a sensible solution to their problem.

And what I do, for him to get mail quicker, I send it in a manilla envelope. He gets it in 2 days. I've been sending him mail in manilla envelopes for months now, and he always get them in 2 days. Yes, it costs more than 44 cents, but it's worth it.

MissAndrea: Really? A letter in a manila envelope? I think I'll try that! Menard probably wont allow it though, but worth a try!

Cool! Thanks, next letter goes in manila envelope for sure! I must say though, that even though its the holiday period, the letter I got today, was written on the 18th, so thats not bad. This time a year ago, it was awful.

I sent a letter on the 12th, still no letter back. :/ I think it has somewhat to do with how long it's taking him to write/send one back though. I haven't written to him before, and I don't think he gets letters very frequently, so maybe he never stocked up on supplies to do it. I also asked him to draw sketches for tattoos I plan on getting, so that might take him some time. But hopefully, it'll come soon.

I just received a letter dated 12-18, on Friday 12-30.. so it's about 12 days to Indiana.  Although he hasn't responded to anything I've written him in the month of December.  So, outbound times are faster than ingoing.

Well, I haven't received mail from him in weeks. And he's told me he's sent out letters. He said he sent out his Christmas card like a week before the 25th and I still haven't received it. He's been receiving my mail. I'm so frustrated. I'm beginning to think they're playing with his mail. I mean, I'm an hour away from the facility. There's no reason for his mail to take a week or more to get to me.

Ahh, it's good to hear that others are having to wait a long time too. Again, I sent mine out on the 12th, and I still haven't gotten a letter back, but this is my first time writing to him. I appreciate everyone's replies, if anyone gets any new info I'd really like to keep being updated until I finally get a letter! Thanks again and take care.

I spoke with a Chaplain there a few days ago and he said that mail into the guys is now taking about 17 days (which he said is an improvement) and mail out is taking just 3-4 days.  He also said packages are the same as letters, but I noticed recently on this topic others have said they're much quicker.
I'm just getting impatient for a phone call!  My son has been there for 18 days so surely he'll be able to call soon!

Wow that's crazy, 17 days. It seems like it's averaging about 8-10 days for a letter to get to him, and 8-10 to get one back. But that's just based on the mail I've sent/received so far. Hopefully I get a letter from him today, because I sent one on the 17th, so I'd say it's about time!
