Teen Dies In Juvenile Detention
January 15, 2012 (CHICAGO) (WLS) --

A 16-year-old boy died Saturday while being held at the Cook County Juvenile Temporary Detention Center.

The teenager reportedly collapsed while playing basketball at the facility on South Hamilton.

An autopsy Sunday was inconclusive.

The medical examiner's office said it will conduct more tests to determine exactly how the boy died.

Preckwinkle wants probe into juvenile center death

Thursday, January 19, 2012
 (CHICAGO) (WLS) --

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle said she wants an independent investigation into the death of a teenage inmate at the county's juvenile detention center.

Terry Bell Jr., 16, collapsed while playing basketball at the facility Saturday. His family says the staff should have prevented him from playing because he suffered from high blood pressure.

The Sun-Times reports Preckwinkle plans to request a probe by independent medical, legal or juvenile corrections experts.
