I hope this is in the right place, if not, I apologize.
I am looking for Ballistics experts preferably in Illinois or not so far away and authorised for Illinois. Is there a list of them available somewhere? I used Google and tried to find some but most of them were out of state. If anyone could advise how to go about finding those, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

It's a long shot, but you might try contacting the State's Attorney office. I'm sure they have a list of experts they normally draw from, and someone might be willing to share some of those names with you.

Thank you very much to all who responded. I tried the google link before and even wrote to a few. They are mostly residing in Texas. Actually my LO's public defender said she was going to ask someone but up to now has only come up with one person. In Illinois it seems there are not so many but I will try to check out everything. If done privately it can cost a fortune it seems. Well and it so happens that the bullets are not even in one piece. They have been stored since 25 years and they are saying that they went into lead particles or something like that. I have no idea whether this is common. I just think that they could be preserved.  So, not everybody might be able to test them. It is difficult but I want to help him to find someone so that the actual caliber can be determined. Actually one would think that this is done before the trial but I stopped thinking that things that appear to be normal to me are actually being done. Thank you again.

wow, 25 years and your trying to find answers. I wish you the best of luck but it is true the bullets can break into lead particles. it is difficult to preserve bullets, only way that is possible is if they take the bullets out of a person that has been in they body all those years. the actual calliber of the gun that was used in the crime should have been determined at the time of the crime. the report should have all that information because however the crime was commited they have to link the bullet to the gun that was used. Ballistics experts do cost alot of money you should look into the Northwestern students that help inmates that have been charged with a crime and are not responsible for it they may be able to help you out.
