Hi I have a question or two about ehm... I really hate the fact that my guy will be on ehm when he gets out, because in my opinion it is insanely stupid that people who went to prison for driving on a revoked licence should have to do this at all, but regardless I was wondering if the phone service MagicJack would work for ehm or not... I was thinking about this one because it seems to be the cheapest and I allready have another phone line and would really like to get the cheapest one available... Also, I would like to know the times and days that they are allowed to leave? I mean his PO was very vague when he came over and discussed this, so I really have no clue... My guy (when hes not in prison) does concrete construction and for people who knows what this entails it means that their work schedule can sometimes be compromised do to inclement weather, and/or the concrete being too wet among other reasons... I mean they kinda never know when they will be home on any given day so that kinda worries me...

Sorry Tonysgirl, never saw this.  It all depends on how magic jack connects can you explain, is it a VOIP????

The PO will give him all his restrictions once he is home, they have the authority.  He may leave him out for only a certain amount of time during the day, it's all different depending on the PO. Your LO is going to have to explain all this and see what they say.  Good idea to always stay on good terms with them.

If your LO is going to be hooked up to a radio frequency unit, then these are the requirements for that.  Don't know if Magic Jack complies with that:

Radio Frequency (RF)   A Radio Frequency tether continuously verifies the defendant's presence or absence at a specified location, usually his/her home. Defendant's can be placed on strict house arrest or ordered to adhere to an authorized schedule. (RF tethers do not provide for tracking of a defendant's whereabouts only the presence or absence from a set location). If a violation is detected, Pretrial Supervision Tether Unit is contacted and a report of the violation is sent to the court and prosecutor. Requirements may include:

defendant must have a stable address

defendant must have a digital or analog landline

defendant must have a standard power source

There are GPS units that are being used and these are the requirements for those:

Global Positioning System (GPS)   The defendant's movements are tracked via satellites and reported at regular intervals, in the event of a violation, the defendant's movement is reported in as close to real time as possible. Exclusion zones for areas such as a victim's home, work, school or church, are programmed into a map with a predetermined radius. If the defendant enters one of these exclusion zones, the victim and Pretrial Supervision Tether Unit are notified immediately, allowing the victim to enact a safety plan. Conversely, if the defendant is required to remain in a specified area, such as home, work or school, for a period of time, an Inclusion Zone is programmed into a map. Appropriate candidates for GPS include defendants charged with Domestic Violence, Assault and Battery, Criminal Sexual Conduct, or any crime with a victim. Requirements include:

defendant must have a stable address

defendant must have a standard power source

defendant will be given a schedule to assure GPS device is fully charged
