I have made several trips to visit C at Robinson.  fourth prison for him in 3  years!  Robinson said to just ask for extended visits when I got there. I had to choose which day I wanted to get for an extended visit.  I got 6 hours that day,  4 the other days.   No need to write a letter,  call first,  etc.
You cannot use the rest room in the visit room.  you need to go back to the gatehouse and get patted down all over again.  I swear I was dehydrated when I got home after restricting fluids so much all week!
There were games there you could use,  like dominoes, and chess.  Half the visit room is for smokers,  half for non smokers.  It's pretty relaxed there.  I was just there and the costs of food in the vending machines was outrageous!  There is no juice,  just coffee and pop.  A plastic bottle 20 oz size of pop said $1.50 on the machine but took $2 out of my debit card twice! I complained and supposedly he'll get $1 credited to his account.  All sandwiches were $3.50 even two little white castle burgers.  I think it was two of them.
I can't report on kissing policies!  C is my son.  I joked with the CO's about it being parent's day,  as when I signed in I saw it was a whole lot of moms with occassionally a dad there also.
it's kind of weird that they have behind glass visits at Robinson,  right in the same room.
Twice when I went there I had my vehicle searched.  They were lucky last time I had a rental car.  The time before I had just dropped a truck load of books off in Urbana!  Hey,  it is there problem, not mine,  how much stuff I have in the truck.  I had already taken my money out for the debit machine and my ID's and had them on the seat next to me.  Once the CO was laughing and saying "hey you're already trying to bribe us huh?". I just get out,  try to figure out how to pop the hood on a rental car when asked to, etc.    It doesn't take long at all.  The reason I had the money out and my ID"s is because they do not have lockers there for your use.  Only the poeple who take a van there can use the lockers.  You must lock your purse in the car and then you can take your car keys in.
Oh, and the CO said that the guys can get the information on van services on their units.
I stayed at the Best Western and liked it.  The continental breakfast is ok.  Once I went and every room was full and I had to stay at a crappy little hotel down the road with stained carpets, etc.  You take the main road through town,  was it highway 31?  and go east maybe 7 miles past the town.  at a stop sign there is a sign for Robinson that tells you to turn left.  You turn right to get to Lawrence.

Made my first trip to Robinson last week.  Took 74 to Danville and then Rt.1 right straight down. Rt. 1 goes right to the prison.  Since it was my first time, they were very nice, explained things to me and showed me how to do things, like put money on card for vending machines.  My car was not searched, but I was patted down.  Guard in the visiting room was nice, explained to us that Jay had to sit in the chair with the x on it, also helped me out with the vending machines.  I did not have to remove any of my jewelry, 5 rings, two bracelets, 4 necklaces.  I did need to use the rest room once and had to be escorted back out and patted down again when I retured.  I did notice that when the second shift came on, they were not as nice as the first shifters.  I was allowed to sit next to him before they came on, but once the shift changed we were told that I had to sit across from him.  I really didn't notice the prices in the vending machine, was just to busy getting him something and wanting to get back to the table to sit with him.  I did notice that there was games and cards on a table to use.  I also saw the glass booths in the visiting room.  I was allowed to take in 1 unopened pack of cigerettes, 2 pks of matches, my keys, coat, and a hankie.  I'll make sure I make more mental notes next week when I go back and let everyone know.

It is tops as far as I'm concerned. Even folks within the DOC call Robinson it's best kept little secret. It's about 180 miles straight south down Route 1. The I  57-interstate goes there. It's seven miles from the Indiana border. Robinson is a series of one-story dorm buildings in a circle with a common courtyard. If not for the razor wirt around the perimeter it looks like an office park.  Next door to the prison is a community college which totally funds college courses for Robinson inmates. Vocational certificates are available for I/M's taking various courses. The college comes to the prison. There are even cap and gown graduation ceremonies.   Inmates are assigned to  dormatories, I think it's ten to a room. Only non-violent offenders are sent to Robinson and there is NO trouble at Robinson. It's like a summer camp.   I/M's move around freely in selected areas going to work, visiting, school, counseling, etc.  Visiting is eight visits per month for four hours each visit. The visiting room is comfortable with great vending machines, fresh salads, fruit bowls, pizza, White Castles, just about anything you could want. They are one of the few prisons that takes pictures for $3. You buy a coupon on your vending card in the food machine and an I/M will take your picure with your I/M.  Mail is delivered promptly - not a bit of trouble there. The food is excellent - they even have a salad bar at the chow hall.  An inmate can eat all he wants.  All I/M's must work their first 30-days in the kitchen. Then they can enroll in school or some other programs or take a job. Robinson has  an outside running track, handball courts, baseball diamonds, weight equipment...it's like summer camp. I think Robinson is used for I/M's that have very mild non-violent crimes...like driving charges, blue-collar crime and minor sex offenses. It's a piece of cake. All the staff requires is respect...and keep shirts tucked in when outside...The staff was wonderful to myself and my I/M. We had relaxing, fun visits. He could go to the vending machines there and find his own food and microwave it. Now this is from 2004 but I don't think things have changed much there...except the warden is now a former county sheriff.  I've heard good things about him.  You can bring five books each visit and there is not limit through the mail.  Money orders are the same as elsewhere in the state - $50 increments.  He may have a TV, stereo, electric razor, lamp, clock, watch, a lot of items are available in their commissary.  He may purchase a hot pot and cook in his dorm. What else can I tell you?

Robinson is off lockdown now and should be back to four hour visits.  Robinson used to have a very small play area for children.  There are books, some small toys and I think there were puzzles also.  There are decks of cards and UNO cards at the guard's desk for adults.  They'll even give you paper and a pencil to keep score.  They have great vending machines...White castles, fresh fruits bowls, everything imaginable....and french vanilla coffee...LOL  They have a small grassy courtyard off the visiting room but I never saw it used...I did visit in the summer...they have a lot of inmate artwork for sale on display on the walls also.  I bought a wonderful painting while I was on a visit.  The visiting room staff were very pleasant and it's seldom crowded.  It's a nice clean place...almost looks like an office park, one story, all the buildings are in a circle around a big grassy yard...lots of ball fields and running track...except for the barbed wire it looks like a college dorm...

One thing I'd like to add, be sure before you start out Brandy, that you have a signed permission slip for your niece from her guardian.  Otherwise, they will turn you away.   I saw it happen, after the grandparents had traveled a great distance to see their son and boy, they were NOT happy!

When I was at Robinson last month I don't recall seeing any toys to play with. But there were games and you can get cards and pencil and paper from the guard. Children were seated at the tables with the adults.  I have seen on two separate visits where the inmate received a ticket for children who were misbehaving and one for safety of the child.  The girlfriend left the baby (1 or 2 years old) sitting on the edge of the table across from the inmate while she went to the vending machine.  Sat. are the busiest, Sun. isn't to bad but during the week is great.

I have brought my step kids to visit their Dad and also took my foster daughter to visit her brother.  In the first case I had to have a notarized letter from their mother and they still questioned me about it at the gate house.  Luckily I could tell who I had already spoken to about it.
In the second case I had to get a notarized letter from a judge. It is always best to call the inmates counselor and check it out if you bring a child that is not your own.

Brandy, I always drove to Robinson from the Chicago area so I'm not familiar with any busses...but I did stay at the Best Western hotel every time I went...it was about $50 a night...however, there is a smaller, family-run motel right on the main street in Robinson that was cheaper...I was told it was really clean and nice.  I can't remember the name but it's easy to find and it's never full....I've found that calling the prisons is the best way to find out about bus services.  They usually have a list of what companies service that particular prison and how to contact them.  Oftentimes it's posted in the visiting centers....maybe someone from you area will come along and provide that information...if there is bus service.

I stayed at the Arvin Motel once and did not like it at all.  I checked out and went to Best Western after all the kids travelling with parents for a sports event checked out. Brandy,  look under bus services,  and call each one of them.  Don't assume they are all just from Chicago.  The other thing you can do is ask him to ask his counselor about bus services.  A lot of times they have information on them but it isn't posted in the visiting area.

My son just left Robinson and I made that trip regularly. I believe the bus is only from Chicago and is not a very positive experience. It drops you off at the facility, makes the next prison, etc. then turns around to pick people up. You would be on their schedule, not yours. Often saw people either have their visits cut short or have to just sit and wait to they got picked up. Sometimes visits got cut to 2 hrs. due to the large amount of people on the bus. Plus unless you make arrangements to wait at the prison lobby you are s.o.s cuz you have to leave the prison when visit is over. The BestWestern is absolutely the best place to stay. Be sure to ask for their corporate rate. Best to call the 800# to do that though. Then when you get to the hotel they won't give you a hard time about the corporate rate. It will save you $20-25. I tried the Arvin it was only 6 cheaper and a real dump. Truck stop dump or like a place that gets rented by the hour...really that bad. Good luck

Sorry...but there is not a bus that will take you from the hotel to the prison. You would have to take a cab. However, chances are you will likely meet other ladies there also going and you make be able to catch a ride. I met some wonderful people and even switched off driving with one lady for about 5 months. If the #800 tells you they are full call the hotel direct they sometimes block all rooms expecting big crouds due to family reunions...but I never saw it full.
Again, good luck

frostie2 My brother-in-law just got transferred to Robinson and I am wanting to know about the visiting room. We were told that we could bring him 1 "new"pack of cigs, so I guess its a smoking area. I am interested in cost of food and what all they have to offer. The food @ Pinckneyville was horrid and quite expensive. I also will have to purchase a new vending card. How much are those? $1 like the other place? Any info on the visits there would be great. He says that it is much better than where he came from. He went down 4 levwels in security so I'm assuming that it MUCH better. Do the chairs in the visiting room have backs or are they those tables with the stool type seats attached? That kills his back. I appreciate any/all people can tell us. We are heading down for our fist visit in 2 weeks. Thanks

The visiting room at Robinson is L shaped.  The smaller section toward the vending machines is the best spot to sit.  They have quite a few microwaves and they used to be well stocked with paper plates, napkins, and condiments and silverware.  No roll of paper towels like the Ville...lol
Photos used to be allowed...they are $3.00..You purchase a photo coupon in the vending machines.  They have quite a few machines.  Our favorites were White Castle hamburgers, fresh fruit bowls with melons, cherries. grapes...maybe that's only in season.  They have pastries, burgers, fresh lettuce salads and dressings, chicken, and the other usual items at most of the other prisons.  They are almost always well stocked and fresh.  They have a  coffee machine with hot coffee, cappucino, soup.  I remember Pizza, cold lunchmeat sub sandwiches, and the usual chips and candy bar machines.  I like Robinson the best for visiting.  I was very relaxed...no cameras, not very crowded.  It has windows looking out over the courthyard and you can see your inmate approaching.  He goes to a small room for a search in the visiting room.  There are two washrooms in the visiting room but they aren't used.  If you need to use a restroom during the visit you must be accompanied back to the main gatehouse.  They have to vending machine card machines in the gatehouse.. $1 per card.  I think you can put quite a bit on them...at least $40.  They have lockers also.  The tables are the four seater type and I think I remember they had backs on the chairs.  They swivel.  When I visited two years ago you were still allowed to sit on the corner seats together...we rubbed knees the whole time.  I was able to pet his arm and scratch his back....LOL...he snuggled up to me when we were using the microwaves...except I don't believe inmates can go to the machines anymore..visiting was for four hours and until 9 p.m.  Hugs and kisses were very long...:)  They have Uno cards and regular cards and toys for children.  They gave us pens and paper for keeping score.  You may bring in one sealed pack of cigarettes to share with the inmate if you want and one full pack of matches...no lighters.  The visiting room walls are lined with inmate artwork.  I bought art on two different occasions.  One time I couldn't wait for it to be shipped...it was a gift and the arts/entertainment director wrapped it for me and put it in my car.  Robinson was probably my favorite place to visit.

I'm sure I once posted the numbers for both hotels under prison profiles for Robinson?
I don't see it.  Let's get them and then post them under Robinson prison profile.   I think maybe the motel is the arney?  something like that? It is across the road from walmart.   They are the only two hotels/motels in Robinson.

They have photos.  you can kiss at the beginning and end of the visit and hold hands at the table. I remember seeing some moms holding their son's hands across the table.  I think they were able to smoke on one side of the room,  but it might have changed.

It's been two years since I visited there but my inmate was in college at Robison..the college is literally next door to the prison.  They even have cap and gown graduation cermonies for inmates. Smoking was allowed...one unopened pack and one pack of matches.  Pictures are polaroids for $3.  This price may have increased.  Robinson is described by DOC Staff as 'the best kept secret in the DOC'....it's a wonderful prison as far as prisons go....

He's going to love Robinson compared to Lawrence.  C loved taking college courses at Robinson,  also.  It's WAY more laid back.  Lawrence is a level 2,  Robinson was a 5,  changed to  4.  big difference.

My broher-in-law is currently @ Robinson. He was transferred there from Pinckneyville. Robinson is a whole other world from Pinckneyville. To say that he loves it there is kinda wierd since it is Prison but he is much happier there. He will be happier still in 2 months when he comes home. Any questions and I'd be happy to try an answer. Good luck

One of my "sonns" is at  Robinson.  He seems to like it.  He mostly keeps to himself.  He is a Christian and I am in the process of getting a Bible Study that he wrote published for him.  He is scheduled to be parolled in June, 2008.  I have never been there to visit him though.  I have heard that it is a great prison and when I did my "best prison survey," it did get a vote or two I think.

Hi all,

This is Preciosa.  I'm a newbie to this.  The love of my life is at Robinson. He scheduled for release in 2012, but I'm hoping that its sonner! I've been visiting once a month since October 2007.  So far the experience there has been ok.  I use crutches to get around and the gaurds are pretty accomodating of letting my honey helpi when I need to go up to the machines.  They stopped taking pictures back in October.  I wish they hadn't!!!

It would be nice to connect with other families that have a loved one at Robinson or other institutuion.  Like alot of you know, its difficult to have a loved one who's incarcerated and I miss him so much!!!!

Hi Preciosa,

You know if I say I love your name, you know that I know what it means!  Welcome to the best support group for loved ones in prison.  Any question you have will be answered...this is a very interactive board!

While my loved one is not at Robinson, I still welcome you with open arms.  We know too well how you are feeling.  You probably ranged from emotions of disbelief, depression, anger, sadness, and find yourself roller-coasting between all of this and acceptance.  Such feelings are normal....and you can count on us to be the shoulder you need on to "vent" or to find out important information...things seem to always come up, just when you thought you and your loved one knew what you were facing..

hey! my babe's at Robinson... he gets on on March 7th though... but the guards there are pretty nice in the first place i was disappointed about the pictures too... it was because an inmate complained about something... i'm not really sure what but that's what my baby said... i was lucky to get one picture with him though.... Where do you live if i may ask... If you have any questions i'd love to try and answer them for you...

Hi Mamacita!!!  Hi Maddison!!!

Thank you both so much for the support! My honey has 4&1/2yrs more to go.  Its hard driving 5 hours to visit him and we go through our phone calls like water.  I'm not used to this, not having the person that I'm in love with not being here.  I keep praying that he will earn some good time or something so that he can come home sooner.

Mamacita, it means so much to me that you reached out to me because I can't talk to my friends about him and the situation.  My friends don't approve of my relationship with him.  They fel that I can do so much better and that I'm selling myself short.

The COs at Robinson are ok.  I am disabled and use crutches, so they let him walk with me up to the vending machines to help me get food and stuff.  I just wish pictures were still around.

Thank you both again so much!!!!

Hi Preciosa...

You know friends are really well-intentioned....they all want to see you hurting less...and many don't realize that their very words are as hurtful, or maybe even more hurtful than the pain you are already going through.

But all of us on this site have loved ones in prison....and we are here for you.  Come back anytime....and hang in there.

I am planning a trip to Robinson in less than 2 weeks and I know theres information on here as far as the hotels/motels go but I have noticed some of the information is pretty old!

So I am wondering if anyone has been latley and any good tips on where to stay I would really appreciate!!

I know Robinson isnt a huge town so not much of a choice as far as hotels/motels but I called best western and they want like $90 a night when its all said and done and thats a tad bit high I will pay that and stay there if I have to but wont be looking forward to it because I am already having to rent a car because mines junk and was hoping to find something alittle cheaper of course anything else I am sure wont be as nice and thats fine just as long as there isnt nasty carpets and ceilings falling in lol

I am willing to stay in a near by town so if anyone could give me some tips I would really appreciate it!!
thank you in advance!

BG...I haven't been to Robinson for four years.   I always stayed at the Best Western and made my reservations online for a reduced priced...they call it the internet price.  I also got a discount with an AARP card of $5.  So the rooms were $55 a night.  It's hard to believe they could get $90 a night at the Best Western...it's a very plain, no frills hotel.   There is a small motel right on the main highway through town....a little closer to Robinson than the BW.  It's just a Mom-Pop type motel and I never stayed there but at that time the rooms were $35 a nite.  It was just a strip-type motel but it looked okay.  I suggest you call the local Robinson police department and ask the name and also what other motels are nearby.  I always drove south on Highway 1 from Chicago to Robinson and passed right through Danville and there are many hotels in Danville and a fabulous buffet restaurant that I can't remember the name of...LOL...but it's right on Highway 1 as you enter town from the north.  Robinson was a great place to visit.  We really enjoyed our visits there...nice people, good food in the machines...excellent staff.  And very relaxed...although they've changed security levels and tightened up the visits recently....

Hi BG,

I went to RObinson this past Sunday.  I never stay overnight (which I should) but the the CO's have told me that the Best Western would be the best place to stay.  I know that Oblong is the closest town near Robinson.  I drive from Chicago and it takes me almost 5 hours.  The facility itself is very relaxed.  I'm planing a trip down there in the next couple of weeks as well.

Does anyone know a quicker route to Robinson from Chicago???

Best western is $74 something a night. there is a little motel down the road never been there but i'd rather stay at best western. i never make reservations just show up. the next hotel is about half an hour at least.

Baby: Where are you coming from?!?! I just got my car fixed could be talked in to taking you out there for a little gas money and a spot to sleep. it'll be cheaper then renting a car probably.

Preciosa: i have gone several ways. whats the way you go?!

Hi Maddison,

The route that I take is I-57 all the way to I-16, I-16 to 130 and then to 33. Its about a 4 to 5 hour drive.  Do you have any suggestions?  I'm going down there this weekend to see my honey.

Take care!!!!

My husband is being moved to Robinson, can someone please give me some information?  What is visiting like, do they have cards, how long is the visits, how much can you take in, do they still have games and activities for children?

Please help me, I plan on visiting at the end of this month, also I see the Best Western is in some post here, I also called down there and spoke to Clinical services and she gave me Best Western and Arvin Motel.

Any help would be nice, I am nervous.

Sunshine..you will like Robinson.  It's a very nice, clean prison with a nice visiting room, good vending service and the staff is usually pleasant.  It's a large L-shaped room with several microwaves and all the perks.  There used to be boxes of toys and Uno cards, etc. for visitors and kids to play with.  I haven't been there in over two years but I always stayed at the Best Western.  The smaller family run motels are fine too...cheaper, clean but not as fancy as a hotel.  There are a couple good restaurants and a nice family buffet right next door to the Best Western.  There's not much to do or see in Robinson, although the small town square is nice to drive around.  The prison is set in a cornfield, lol, and the community college is right next door.  It's a one story compound and looks much like an office park.  Have a safe trip and enjoy yourself.

It's only a couple miles....the prison is on the outskirts before coming into Robinson.  The prison is on Highway 1 and the Best Western is on a different highway, the one that runs through town...can't remember the number of the Highway...30 something I think...LOL.  It takes about five minutes....watch your speed....they hide in the weeds on the main highway through the town...

My boyfriend is at Shawnee right now and he is trying to get his transfer put through to Robinson, was it hard for your inmate to get transferred there?  How long did it take for him to get there after the transfer was accepted?

My boyfriend is waiting for his transfer to go through to Robinson...ANY INFORMATION on Robinson would be helpful?  What are the chances of getting work release out of there because I know that they are slim to none at Shawnee?  Also my boyfriend got tranferred to Shawnee from Graham back in late August on a disciplinary but since he has been at Shawnee he hasn't been in any trouble and they gave him a job as a night janitor so they have some trust in him apparently and he is really trying to get his time back that he lost (15 days) and then apply for his good time.  Will it be easy for him to get his time back at Robinson if he is transferred there?  Let me know ASAP! Please and thank you.

Hey Everyone,

Wow I havn't posted anything in months!!! Anyway...This is my first time going to see my baby during the summer and I wanted to wear shorts because he has never seen how tan I can get during the summer and my legs always get really dark! Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knew the restrictions on wearing shorts, like how long they have to be and everything...   wc7

IloveMAX, the best thing to do is call Robinson and ask them.      (618) 546-5659

I've seen women turned away in some that I thought would be OK.  Each facility is different sometimes on what they allow.  You can always take an extra pair of something in the car too.

Have a wonderful visit and be safe!

At Dixon Correctional as long as the shorts are right on or passed your knees they let you in.  But like Mah said you should call, because they might have different rules.  Have a great time!

Well, its been quite some time since I have posted. Its been a long hard road, but my L/O is finally at his parent institution, Robinson CC. I know nothing about it, except he says its like a summer camp. I, myself just got released from Dixon Springs IIP. So the distance has been unbearable, but now things have settled down and I was wondering if anyone had information about visits...as far as someone being on parole or being an ex-offender and going to visit an incarcerated inmate? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Its hard enough having been away for this long, I am dying to see him... =/

And I sure did miss IPT!! <3 Glad to be back!!!

All IDOC facilites use Consolidated.  1-800-235-4416.  You call them to set up your service to accept calls.

consolidated communications is the phone service that you need to receive calls. Robinson is a pretty decent place I visit at least once a month. The visits are four hours long , I've never had a problem with the Co's at robinson they are actually very pleasant. My friend that is there Say's it's okay he hasn't had any problems.

I posted extensively about Robinson when my inmate was there.  Things haven't changed all that much.  You might try reading my post for Robinson under Individual Prison Profiles.  There is also a thread called Which Prison is Best?  And there's information about Robinson in there too.  We have a button at the top of the forum that says "Search"....try putting Robinson in that box and see how many topics there are.

My L/O was transferred to Robinson a few weeks ago.  After I was approved for the telephone calls I was able to sit up the calls through Consolidated.  It took a few days because by the time he tried to call me to let me know  I  was approved on his call list it was on a Friday and I was not able to get it set up until Monday morning.  Received  a call that evening.  I had not heard his voice in almost three months.  They also quickly got me approved for visits.  I was surprised how quickly this was done and I appreciate it very much.  I have now been able to visit him twice.  I am only two hours away.  It was good to see him and we had a very nice visit.  My visiting experience was great.  I could not have asked for more consideration and kindness from the correctional officers.   They were all so kind that I almost forgot that I was in a correctional facility.  Just wanted to let everyone know how my first two visits went and that I did have a great visiting experience.

samsgirl1, I'm glad your visits went well, Robinson is a pretty decent place, two hours is not too bad of a drive.

Hi, all I just got back from a 2 day trip to Robinson to see my L/O, we had a good time it was so nice to see him again laughing & joking about the past and talking about our future together. The boys loved seeing him again we all miss him so much. I can't go back to see him until he comes home I really hope these last 5 months go by so fast we can't wait for him to be home with us again. Well I just wanted to tell everyone that we had a great trip.

The usual allowance is somewhere between 3 and 5. You can call to get the specific amount.

I called and the officier said doesnt know exact limit but most people bring 5 to 6 in.
I will stick with 5 since I saw that on the visiting rules document.

You might have missed this topic with much information on Robinson and posts from many who have visited before:

http://www.illinoisprisontalk.org/index.php/topic,5625.0.html

Most prison will allow a diaper change before you go into the visiting room and you are allowed to fill one bottle before you go in too.  If I were you, I would call there today, information is in the link above and ask them, just what their rules are for your little one so you are prepared going.

Have a good visit.

I have visited Robinson many times. It is pretty laid back and I have seen men hold their babies, but have seen the guards tell people to keep their little kids from running around the room. The visits are 4 hours long, I drive over 5 hours to visit and have never got a visit longer than that even when the room is almost empty. I usually stay at the Best Western right in Robinson and they are really nice and have great rooms. It might be best to call about any other questions. Hope you have a nice visit.

Marisa90, I have been there several times and i take a baby with and you can take two bottles pre made wipes are okay i wanna say you can take 5 diapers they will be put in a locker but the bottles you can take back any baby food has to be given to the visiting room co. They are very nice there i never had to show more then 1 proof of i.d. Visit last up to 4 hours but can be cut short if they're busy but i have never had it happen. You can only take the baby's stuff & keys & what ever money your gonna put on the card. I hope this helps & have a fun & safe visit.

Marisa,
Yes, you do need 2 forms of ID to the first visit.  I'm not sure if your school ID will be acceptable.  Your best bet is to call and ask.  As for a birth certificate for your son, you will not need that.  The CO will just ask if you have custody of the child (or atleast that is all that they asked me).  Visits can last up to 4 hours (depending on how many other visitors are there).  Visitation starts at 9 a.m.  As for how many visitors and how many a month I'm not sure cuz I only go once a month and it's typically just me by my self or I'll take my daughter but I have seen visits with 3 people there.  Best of luck on your visit!

its 8 visits a month. 4 hours per visit. not sure how many visits a day or max about of people.
i would call to check. This weekend I saw a guy have two visits in a day.  I also saw them give people a regular chair when it was over 3 people. Im not sure if they got special permisson for that.
can bring in 5 magazines or books - give them to the person when you first sign in.
The prison is in the middle of nowhere surrounded by cornfields. there is a vistors parking which is on the right side of the parking lot when you turn in.  You walk into door and there is a desk.  the bathrooms are in that lobby as well. You give the person at the desk your id and tell them who you are visting. They had me sit down for a bit then they had me go thru a metal detector. Once I went thru that they had me sign in my name, inmates name, id number, license plate number and time arrived. They gave me my id back and gave me a locker key.  They had me put my id and keys in the locker then showed me into a small room where they frisked me down.  They had me go from the small room to outside the room by the lockers. Then they open the door had me walk into another room then opened the other door leaving to yet another room.  Once we got into that room we got into a hallway that led to the vistors room.  they had me sign my name inmate name and time arrived again.  They asked me who i was visiting then they had me sit at the numbered table that they stated. the room was L'ish shaped.  They had tables that had attached chairs.....

they had chess, scramble, cards, and dominos to play with - they had them by the vendor machines. The food was overpriced of course but they had pop, hamburgers, burritos, chips, candy bars etc.  You have to get the food and games yourself - the inmate has to stay at the table. The inmates can go to the bathroom that is off the visting room but visitors have to go back to the lobby then get refrisked then escorted back to the visting room. The guards do seem a bit more laidback than what i am use to. I was able to kiss and hug my LO when he first walked in and then again when we left. I was able to hold his hands as well. Most girls were sitting across from our LOs.  I saw men holding kids. When you are sitting the windows on the long side shows the courtyard. you can see the dorm houses and the other buildings (they all look the same)

From Aurora it took me 5 and half hours.  I stayed at best western for the night.  No pool there but it was a decent price, free breakfast, real close to prison, close to kfc and it was clean.

About 2 weeks or so.  Hang in there, you might get a call before you get a visit!  All his lists have to be approved.

All SEG visits are behind glass and the inmates are shackled to the floor.

Robinson SEG
9:00am-8:00pm (daily)
Segregation Inmates are limited to one visit per week for only two hours.

Call the prison and ask to speak to his counselor.  They will tell you if he is in, but not why he is in.

No phone calls, but they can continue to write to you and you can send him in some books/magazines while he is there.

If he is allowed, he may only be able to purchase personal items.  When you talk to his counselor ask her, this way you will know if you need to put more $$$ in his account.
