Maybe you can call the facility and ask for a number there......I know there is a bus service because they have arrived when I have been there visiting my son but Ive never used it.

Hi everyone,
I was wondering if the posts from 2006 regarding visits, showers, yard, time locked down in cell, etc. , are still accurate? This is a level 2, but from what I read it sounds a lot like Stateville.
Has anyone visited recently? What about bringing infants and or toddlers on a visit?
Any up to date information anyone can give me would be most appreciated. Thanks, and have a great day!

I have been there about 5 times since October 2010. My last visit was on March 16, 2011. My Sweetie has been there for about 5 years now. There is an old man guard at the visitor's entrance has a bad attitude and treats you like crap. Because of him and his attitude, I am no longer allowed to visit. The lady is very nice. But when you go in, you show 2 forms of ID, sign in and make sure you have your vehicle license number. They will check your ID and inspect your car, including the trunk. Once you have passed that than they take you thru this door, where you can get a locker for 50 cents to put your things in. They will pat you down. There is a machine that you can put money on a card for the vending machines. Food is expensive. $5 for a sandwich, $1.50 for a drink, .65-1.00 for snack foods. Most usually you have a good visit once you get past that first guard. They are getting stricked to keep visits to 4 hours. I MISS MY BABY!

Is Lawrence still as restricted as the earlier posts have indicated? Still the 23/1 schedule?
My son had an escape from house arrest, so I'm sure that's why he's in a more secure place. Have not heard from him yet - but I know they're currently on lockdown.

Heard from him - he got a 10 sec free call. Consolidated screwed up our phone service, had to call them to get it fixed!
I sent him money for his commissary - I couldn't send as much as he wanted, hope they get to shop again soon.
Have to get some magazines in the mail for him.

Thank you everyone for taking the time to share all your experiences and knowledge about Lawrence. 23/1 means in your cell all the time??? My son is in there now. He said it was worse than Stateville?? what about the list of programs etc. that are indicated on their site, all the stuff they supposedly offer. I can just imagine with more and more cuts to state budgets how our loved ones end up suffering the consequences...

As for programs, they exist but the wait lists are very long to get into the classes. Some people have waited as long as 8-12 months to finally get into a class. Some wait lists are longer than others depending on the facility. I don't know what the wait list looks like for Lawrence. Someone with an LO in there will stop by and add more info for you.

vrijheid have your son put in a request right away for either school or work, like I said my son has been there a little over a year and has been in school for about six months already, it didn't take him too long to get into classes...

Like previous people have said...have him fill out request form for work and school....this way when an opening arises he will be considered. The place is not great but tell him to make the best of it and keep his chin up. My husband has been there for 6 months and is working. It is not great but at least he is not locked up in the concrete closet all day he says. Send your son lots of letters, books and magazines as they is all they have for now and if you can swing it money for tv and headphones. That is a life saver at this point.

Isn't it amazing how such as a little thing like a Hot Pot can help make a person life so much better.I think that all of the commissary should be the same at each IDOC facility. Just my opinion for what it's worth.
