Generally the CO's are easy to deal with.
Logan Correctional Center is Located in Lincoln IL, and is next door to the Women's prison, the Lincoln Corr Ctr. Logan allows 5 visits 5 hours each. Only 2 visits can be on a weekend and holidays count as a weekend visit.
Visiting hours are from 9am till 6pm during the week and cut off at 2:45pm. On weekends the hours are from 9am till 8pm and I think the latest you can come is 6pm.
no photos.
They do car searches randomly, and l go through everything in the car.
The card machine will take any denomination of bills. They only allow $20 but you can add $20 to the balance you have on it.
Dress code isstandard. No short dresses or skirts. No shorts, no sleeveless tops. Can't be see through, no low cut tops or extremely tight shirts. You must wear underwear, bra and panties and they check!
As far as Jewelry, all body piercing must be taken out. You can wear 1 pair of earrings, a watch and wedding/engagement ring. If you are bringing in a baby, you must bring 2 diapers and some wipes in a clear baggie. You will change the baby in the shakedown room with a female guard. You bring the other diaper in with you. You can bring one bottle, and a blanket.
They do have lockers but they rarely let you use them, unless you do not have a vehicle. There is a train station in Lincoln, but it is still about a 10 minute cab ride from the station.
You are allowed to kiss and hug when you first arrive and before you leave. You can hold hands during visit but cannot touch any other part of each others bodies.
If you are the wife or girlfriend of the inmate you must sit across the table from them. They have cards and some games for kids.
There are Hotels and Motels about 10 minutes north of the prison. There is a Holiday Inn express and others.

Swtnsxy513,
My father was in Logan for several months. Danville is nice because it is near to my home, but my dad prefers the CO's and the facilities at Logan. My information is nearly a year old. I would be happy to help in any way I can. What would you like to know?

There are a number of things that have been unique to my visits to Logan. One is that they have NO lockers at the gatehouse. You are allowed to take into the visitor center only 3 items. One is your ID, second is your debit card, and third is a key to unlock your car door. You can not take your entire keychain. Only one key is allowed. No remotes. They are also very picky about what is worn. Don't wear shorts or a skirt. Capris are iffy. Some CO's will let you in, others wont. Luck of the draw. Don't show any hints of cleaveage. They wont allow any shirts that have zippers. So workout jackets can not be used as a shirt. They had the cheapest vending machines of the prisons I've been too. That may not be true anymore. At the time I went there the vending machines had trouble reading any debit card with over 40 bucks on it. That is all that comes to my mind right now. Oh yeah, you can bring your inmate upto 3 personal items. 1 news paper, 1 magazine, and 1 book. That is all. I hope this helps.

Ps. I'm not much farther away. I'm in Mahomet.

..) Logan is getting new vending company on June 27th... So old cards will not work and there is no refund if money is left on them... The new cards will cost $5.00 and $2.00 of that will go onto card when you initially get it.. You can not get old cards or add money to them anymore... Just an FYI if you are planning on visiting before the 27th..

New vending machines for visiting... Everything is higher priced! No bottles of soda, now it is dispensed into a cup.

My husband is being transferred to Logan and I called to find out about visits and a counselor told me its "3" weekend visits a month..... However..................I have a friend I used to ride with who's man is in Logan and she says no - that its only "2" weekend visits a month. So I called back and asked the first person that answered the phone - how many weekend visits are allowed. He said 2. Ok.... So then I asked for a counselor AGAIN and asked and he said 3!! What the heck!!! Does anyone no the REAL number of weekend visits allowed? Or is this 3 a new thing and not everyone is aware yet??? I am so confused!!

I have a son in Logan and I go to see him at least one day a week. 5 visits a month. You are only allowed 2 weekend visits, holidays are considered a weekend. Make sure you take plenty of money. The limit used to be $20 at a time but since the new vending machines were put in the prices are very high. I spend at least $25 to $30 a week and I don't eat anything but a bag of chips and a drink. I have never had any problems with the guards. If you respect them, they respect you. 1 key, debit card and Id is all that is allowed in. Make sure you lock your car and put up the windows, close sunroof. They do check out the cars and if the window or something is not closed you will have to leave. What not to wear? see through shirts, low cut shirts or short shirts. If you bend over and your back or under wear shows more than likely you will not get in. There have been a few times when I was there that the girls shirt was to short, the girl was leaning over the table and her G string was clear up her back (not a pretty site considering the girl was over weight) My son might have enjoyed it but it made me sick. The only jewelry you can wear is a wedding set, watch, 1 set of earring's, neckless must be religious, you can wear barrettes and stuff. Hope this all helps out.

Hi, I've got a question about Logan CC. I'm familiar with Graham and I was wondering how much different Logan is from Graham. Is it worse or better? Any info will be appreciated. Thank you.

I think Logan was better. They didn't make me feel like an inmate too. When he was in Graham I was always thinking if the CO's hated their jobs so much why don't they quit. Only 1 female CO at logan was very unfriendly the rest were ok. I have not seen her for quite sometime. From what I have been told she writes more tickets in a month than the rest do in a year. Of course I was visiting a son so there was no handholding ect. I have seen people get warned (not tickets) about how they were holding hands. Don't know exactly what they were doing. But over all Logan was a better place to visit.

For the question about bra's, underwire bra's are a no no I was told by the female CO at the gatehouse when I was visiting my son. Luckily I wore a sports bra. But they are very strict on clothing, so dress conservitively , best to be cautious, than have to go all the way to Walmart to buy new clothes to get in. I never encountered a rude CO while I was there visiting. My son preferred Logan to the other two he was in , Shawnee and Pinkneyville. They are allowed a little more freedom at Logan. You will be assigned a table when you walk into the visiting room. Report to the CO at the desk and they will tell you which table to go to. If you have any questions at all, ask them, they will tell you what you want to know. The vending cards are sold at the Admin. Building , it is the building in front of the parking lot. Go in there first to get your vending card. You can then go to the gatehouse to check in.

I read that you can't bring remotes for the car in with you. But the only keys to my car have the remote right on the key. Will they let me bring that in?

Ok so just an update. If you have a key to your car that doesn't have a remote on it you can bring that in with you and not get a locker at all. But if it has the remote you are not allowed to bring it in.

To my experience this is how its always worked for me at Logan - you can only take the actual car key in with you - no remote opener or alarm. If the key has it built into it - (ex: VW keys) they will lock that key in a locker.
Nothing else will be put in lockers. You take your ID/DL in with you as well as your vending machine card. That's it.
Let me know if I can help with anything else.

I read alot of posts on here. I'm planning on visiting Logan this summer, and wanted to know. Do they still take pictures, can you wear heels, how much & what kinds of snacks and foods are offered? If you have a balance on your card can you just give it to the inmate instead of wasting it. What forms of id do i need on the 1st visit. Where do you put the money on the card? How much $ is typical for a day visit? If there is anything else I need to know it is greatly appreciated.

Heels are allowed; but make sure your shirt is not sheer; they will make you put a t shirt on over it; you cannot wear anything sleeveless; no midriffs; shorts must be to your knee. My son will polish off $35 a visit in food, as their cafeteria food is not very good; you cannot give the card to the inmate; and cards are purchased in the main building; you must have a $5 bill to purchase the card and then it has $2 on it; then you can add up to $45. Only 1 pair of earrings, wedding ring; 1 necklace if it's religious, and a watch are allowed as jewelry; you must have 2 forms of ID the first visit; drivers license, SS card are best. You can only take 1 key (for your car), ID and meal card in to the visit with you Hope this helps....griz

Sorry no pics. and I haven't seen any kind of shoes or sandals turned away; as long as the rest of you is appropriately (per IDOC) covered then strappy sandals are ok they have blimpie sandwiches, rally burgers, chicken, and rib sandwiches, variety of chips, candy bars, fountain drinks; also hot wings and ice cream. The food is pretty good but expensive....griz

Aug 3, 2009 The machine in the front lobby at Logan only takes $5 bills now. But I don't think there is a limit as to how much you can put on there. I do know that the machine takes $2 or $3 from the first $5 you put in.

I know the machine in the front lobby only takes $5 bills to purchase the cards but then you can add any amount. There are actually 2 machines to add money in the lobby. I was there Saturday and it was working fine.

There is a limit but I cant remember right now what it is. I will have to get back to you guys on that. I normally just put $25 at a time.

i will, thank you for the info.
do you know if being married helps the parole process to another state? I read the Interstate Compact, but I am wondering if you have any first hand experience?
I was told that my LO couldnt move to Florida unless he was moving to a immediate family members house (like my house if we were married).

I like the blimpie sanwiches but the last time I was there they didnt have any. They had a ton of rally burgers.

Yes only a "religious" necklace can be worn. Only a wedding ring. 1 pair of earrings and a watch. No braclet or any other body jewelry.

I believe that you have to write a letter to the warden and have your visits approved by him before you can visit. I'm sure someone else will come along with the specifics, but I think that's what you have to do.

Yes you definately have to write the Warden and get permission first. I have seen them turn away people before for this very reason.

I'm bummed out... I went to Logan on Fri to see my LO. I thought that Fri might not be a good day to go, but my LO insisted that it wouldn't be too crowded. I got there at about 9:30, then waited for a little over an hour for him in the visiting room. We were at one of the big tables for the first hour, because all the small ones were full. We got moved to a smaller one after an hour, and our visit was terminated an hour later because there were too many people. I know it's not anyone's fault or anything, but I was just bummed out. Then, with all the construction on 55-N, it took me 4 hours to get home (It usually takes 3). I don't get to go very often, so I just needed to vent...

Vent away. Yes 55 is horrible going north by Wilmington. Hoping by the time the weather gets bad the construction will be over. We went on Sunday to Logan, it was crowded too and only had a 2 and half hour visit, and the vending machines were a little low. I think Fridays can be just as crowded as weekends. We usually get there by 10 - 11 AM. Wondering if it would be better to go later in the day. It's a 3 hour dr both ways for us too. Unfortunately soon I'll only be able to go on weekends. Might get one more weekday visit in August. Hoping your next visit is better.

Hello everyone, My LO just got transferred to Logan today from Sheridan, Not exactly sure why but im sure IDOC has its own reasons. How long until they are able to use a phone? I have not heard my LO's voice since before he left county. He was at Stateville for 4 weeks then Sheridan for 1 1/2 and now he's been moved to Logan. Any body have any idea why they would move him? Cant wait for him to just get settled and into a routine...
TIA!

Welcome to IPT .. there are several ways to send money to your inmate, Western Union and a few others. Here is a topic that will explain how to do this and on that board is other information on Inmate Trust Accounts: http://www.illinoisprisontalk.org/index.php/topic,19892.0.htmlWhen he is released from Logan, after he serves his time, someone can either pick him up or they will put him on a bus/train back home. He'll find this all out when it's time for him to be released.

If you go to Comcast.net and then find the TV listings, put in 62656 (Logan's Zip Code) it will show you all the shows that are available in Lincoln, for Comcast. We don't know what provider the prison has there and also would not know just what channels the prison allows the inmates.

They get just the basic stations that Springfield gets. I know like CBS, NBC, ABC and WGN and few others cable type stations. We looked online before the baseball season for the Cubs and Whitesox schedule times and TV schedule, but since they are close to St. Louis, if the Cardinals are on TV, those games play instead of Chicago teams. They do have a DVD movie station that runs several newer DVD released movies on weekends too. He gets the newspaper delivered and that helps. USA today actually comes that day and has the TV schedule. Chicago Tribune comes through the mail, so it's several days late.

-Hi Everyone, Well I'm finally getting ready to go visit my LO in IL at Logan.. Ill be traveling from out of state. From what Ive read visiting him here in Massachusetts was a lot different. What can I wear to see him? I'll be going in June, is the weather usually really hot by then out there? Do they allow capris? flipflops? Also, we have a 1 yr old daughter...I was thinking of bringing her with me but its a lot of traveling. Just wondering how their visiting rooms are and if shed be able to run around? Would he be able to hold her? I just want to get the most out of this visit seeing as it might be our only one for awhile. Any additional detailed information on what I would need to do and not do would be extremly helpful! Im already really nervous and trying to get as much info as i can :-) Thanks!

Capris below the knee are fine. Last year I wore sandals but I heard some facilities are not allowing flip flops, not sure about Logan. The baby will need to be kept by your table, not allowed to run around. Yes he can hold her on his lap. There are rules about bringing in a few diapers, a blanket and some baby food and bottles. I would suggest you call and ask. They are very nice when visitors bring in babies. We brought our infant grandson to see his uncle. You must wear underwear, and no tank tops or camisoles - shoulder must be covered, midriff must be covered, no holes in jeans - it's sometimes cold in the visiting room, so bring a sweater if you sit by the air conditioner. There are metal tables with stools or small tables with regular chairs. The stools are bolted down. You will need $5 bill to buy the vending card and then can add up to I think $50 on it for vending machine food. He will be able to stand and hug and kiss you in the beginning and at the end of the visit. You will need to sit across him and can hold hands. The infant can be passes between you or sit on the stool or table. There is one table by a TV and sometimes you can get that one and they turn on cartoons for the little one. Hope this helps. Have a nice visit.

Also since you are coming from out of state, if you contact the warden and ask for an extended stay they will allow you to not be asked to leave after the minimum 2 hours if it is crowded. It's easier to get this if you don't visit on the weekend or a holiday. My niece was able to make sure she stayed the full five hours. Just be polite and say you are coming in from out of town and they will try to accomadate you.

I hope you have a great visit :) My husband is there and I have never had any problems. The guards are super nice, with an exception here and there. Like whymyson said make sure you are wearing full underwear, no thongs. They sometimes check and will have you go buy some new ones. She pretty much covered all the basis.
I hope you have a terrific visit. Enjoy your time :)

Thank you all for your replies! Just trying to get all my research done before hand so i know what im going into. Massachusetts was very strict when i went in to see him here. Can you wear hair accessories? Like bobby pins or headbands or elastics? Hes already put in his visitor list and wrote to the warden about me coming from out of state. As soon as I know my exact dates ill be there I will call also. Is there anything agains seeing him 3 or 4 days in a row? I plan on coming Sunday-wednesday so it hopefully wont be so crowded.. Any recomendations on anything in the area to do when im not visiting?
Thanks again! :-)

Looks like flip flops are OK at Logan still. Was there today and several women had on capris and flip flops. The vending machine with sandwiches was broken but was able to get some decent food for son in the one other refrigerated vending machine. There are chips, popcorn, candy, cookies and sometimes decent sandwiches, hot pockets, chicken wings, pop and water to buy. Today they were out of ice cream and no hamburgers or turkey sandwiches since the one vending machine was broken. It wasn't crowded today, was I guess very crowded yesterday so food was gone and what was left in one machine couldn't be bought.
Forgot to tell you - if you can't lock things in a car, the CO's will take inventory of what you leave in one of their lockers. Otherwise you can only bring in your car key ( no remote or FOB), and ID and the vending card. Don't wear a necklace if it's not a religious one, or bracelets. You can wear a watch, one ring set, one set of earrings. If you put hair ties in, they will count those but they are allowed. You will be patted down, so yes make sure you wear regular underwear, and I'm not sure if underwire bras are allowed or not. Some CO's are more lenient with the shakedown, then others. Hope I remembered it all.

I believe you can visit 5 times in the month - only 2 on weekends, so you should be fine visiting 4 days in a row. You might get extended stays for several days if it's not crowded. If you have a car, go to Springfield, only about 30 minutes away - it has so many things to do - Lincoln's house, Lincoln's tomb, tours of the old Capitol building and more! As for Lincoln - don't have a clue - other than stopping for food and gas, we drive there for the visit and drive back. Feel free to ask more questions. Been going there for a year now, hoping it would be only a few more months, but probably 7 months to go.

FYI - food prices - sandwiches are about $4 or $5, pop is $1.40 a bottle. My son can drink 4 bottles a visit, about 2 hot meals like sandwiches or pizza or chicken. Candy bars are between $1.25 - $2. Chips and popcorn are $.80 - $1.25. Ice cream sandwiches are I think $3 - $4. When there are three of us snacking it can run us around $30 - $40. Son can eat about $25 himself. My husband and I nibble on popcorn, soda or water and snacks and then go to Wendy's or somewhere else later to eat. We like getting there at 9 AM when they open since we drive from far. Some people like getting there around 11- 12 and hope to stay through count til after 4 PM. Hopefully you will get the extended stays and won't be asked to leave after two hours. We had a 4 hour visit today, and probably could have stayed longer, but had to drive back today.

Thank you so much for all your info! My LO is always suprised when he calls and i have more info about where he is than he does! Im looking to come out there in June, I should be able to make my final plans in a couple of weeks. What is the best hotel to stay at near Logan? What time do visits usually go until?
Again, Thank you so much for all the info! Hope you had a wonderful Easter! :-)

I've noticed a Hampton Inn the exit 126 off 55 close to Logan. There are a few others on that exit too. Do a google search for hotels in Lincoln. We usually do well at Hamptons. I have never stayed overnight there. Visiting hours are 9-6 during the week - and I think until 8 on weekends. But you need to check in before 2 PM. If you don't get in by 3 PM you will wait at the gate until there is movement after 4 PM. 3 PM is when the shift changes and there is no movement and they do a count. http://www2.illinois.gov/idoc/facilities/Pages/logancorrectionalcenter.aspxLots of info here too. If you call the gate - you can ask questions and they are very nice and will answer them for you too.
