Welcome to IPT.

You can send letters to him at Vandalia, using his name ID# and the address of the facility.

If he hasn't already put you on his phone list, he must first do that, giving them all your information and once that is approved he will be able to call you.

You can go to our phone board here on IPT and read on how to set up a Consolidated Phone account, they are the only company you can use for calls from an inmate in IDOC, here is the link to that board:

I have a question that I have not seen asked but really need to know. My daughters father is in Vandalia and she is only 8 weeks old and breastfed... What do I do if she needs a feeding during a visit?

Call the facility and ask, plan to feed the baby before the visit, there is a bathroom but I wouldn't breastfeed in there.

Skully... Ive been to Vandalia quite a few times and their is a sitting arrangement in the visiting room with a shower curtain that u pull around you and the baby and u can breastfeed, also u could pump and bring the bottles in with u, just all up to u and how comfortable u feel with the situation ;)

Oh wow! Got a letter from my l/o in Vandalia and I am absolutely horrified by how they are treated while there! In his letters he never mentioned what it was like in there so I asked him to tell me in his next letter and I can not believe we would allow them to live in such conditions and be treated the way they are! Hey I know they broke the law... But to not even have proper clothing (his boots have no insoles and the soles are coming off... His feet are blistered and hurt like hell... His pants are so holey he needs a pair of sweats to wear under them... His jacket has no insulation) only 8 toilets to 100 men? Inmates in the basement inmates in the gyms c/os that yell and degrade and act like they are trying to push you to mess up... He says he feels like a P.O.W. And that it is messing with his head... And spiders bite the inmates often... Like I said... I understand that they did something to get themselves in there and they are being punished but at what point does it become cruel and unusual?

There is no train directly to Vandalia. You could either ride a train to Chicago then there is a bus that takes people from Chicago to Vandalia, but I am sorry I do not no the name of that company, but they do charge $60.00. Other option is to ride a train to St. Louis which is only about 45min to an hour away from Vandalia and you could then rent a car which would only cost 25.00-30.00 a day plus whatever gas you use. Good luck on your visit I hope is goes GREAT! I also live out of state so I have looked into all the ways I could get to Vandalia. :)

Oh Skully I completely forgot that you asked about an area for breastfeeding. I could have todd you they didn't have one.... Shame on me!

I'm so happy you had a good visit. They really are pretty pleasant there and very understanding.  I'm thinking about going down on Saturday but for sure on the 27th... (our anniversary  )

Tonysgirl... Haha yep :) they allowed me to put a chair in the bathroom... At first I was like "I gotta feed her in the bathroom???" but it was suprisingly very clean! And that was the first time he got to hold her :)
