Facility Information

It is the mission of the Shawnee Correctional Center and Hardin County Work Camp to provide for the protection of society through the humane and secure incarceration of adult male offenders, based upon a foundation of legislative and judicial decisions. The administration is committed toward instilling responsibility and mature decision making in its offenders. By providing extensive and high quality education programs, work assignment opportunities, public service, leisure time activities, and religious avenues, the institution is expected to go far beyond the provision of the minimum necessities of food, sanitation, clothing, housing, and medical services to the offenders at this facility. The Hardin County Work Camp is a 200 bed Level 7 work camp facility, a satellite of Shawnee Correctional Center.

The Hardin County Work Camp focuses on community service through work crews and partnering with Habitat for Humanity and the Lutheran Social Services. The Work Camp’s Construction Occupations Class builds several houses each year that are donated to the charities listed above. Various items have been donated for fundraising events. Since 2001, approximately $30,000.00 has been raised. The Work Camp primarily services the Hardin, Saline and Gallatin County area with work crews.

Just got back From Hardin Work Camp. Talk about a long drive but the scenery was just beautiful. The Co's and Lieutenant's were very professional but yet friendly- I was really surprised. They actually let you visit the full 4 hours I couldn't believe that one either  wc6 . There were only like 5 small tables with a few chairs under them. There was 3 vending machines 2 for drinks ( most drinks were $0.55) and the other for snacks ( around $.075 to $1.00). I took  $10.00 in one dollar bills and $10.00 in quarters. Time went buy really fast. The only thing that I had trouble with was on the Tom Tom it gave me different directions than what I had printed off Yahoo get driving directions. Other than that it was a great weekend getting to see my son on Saturday at Du Quoin IIP and my LO at Hardin today. God has Blessed me as he does each and  everyone of us everyday.
